  1. Here's a great video that has a list of what halo 5's forge needs to include.
  2. Here is the Halo 4 panel from PAX east where the 343 team discusses all things multiplayer for Halo 4. They talk to us about the new TU coming, the new castle map pack and we get a demonstration of the new forge world. So enjoy. The video was uploaded by Podtac TV.
  3. Within the new Halo 5 forge (which I PRAY they include), I hope to see a redesign of the gravity lift mechanics. For too long have I sat in forge and played with the angle of the gravity lift to get it to go exactly where I want it to every time. I hope 343 acknowledges this suggestion, and I think it is a good one. So picture this, when a Gravity Lift is spawned, it has three editable points, the grav lift itself, the top of the arc, and the landing zone. The gravity lift can have traits like "Speed," and other related traits, the top of the arc can have its location edited, maybe have the option to move anything caught inside of it, and if 343 is feeling really nice, they can add the option to have two arcs (and make the top of each arc cost budget or take up an entire lift in the menu) , to make a Gravity lift that can swerve and turn like a player is caught in the wind or something. This I think would be very cool, and the very premise of this idea may spawn entire mini-games based around it, it could make maps much easier to navigate, making maps with lifts would be a breeze, and it just sounds like downright fun.
  4. I don't know if it's a little late to comment on what should be brought to Halo 5 (or Halo 5 Guardian), but I just thought I would say what's on my mind. First off, after forging for over a year on Halo 4, I can honestly say I like it a lot better than halo reach forge (By no means am I saying it is better than Halo reach, that's just my personal preference). With that said, their are a few features that would be great for a high tech game like Halo 5 to be implemented. 1) An undo button would be nice: but I would defiantly like it better if it was a menu option only and not an actual button on the controller because I would hit it all the time! 2) A highlight option! I noticed on the 360 controller (at least I think) is that the bottom and right arrow do nothing in forge. With that said, perhaps they could be set as a new function called Highlight. With the highlight option active, you can move multiple objects anywhere around the canvas without changing the angles of the objects, For instance if you have ever highlighted a sentence at the end of a paragraph in Microsoft Word and moved it to the beginning, everything says the same. With the highlight option, instead of being green when selected it should be yellow to indicate the highlight function is active. And of course if their should also be a menu function to highlight all in-case you want to move the whole thing. 3) This one is not not a huge complaint, but it would be nice if rotation snap worked for more sensitive angles instead of using the common 5, 15, 30, 45, & 90 preset rotations. Also if these could work across different coordinate planes, for instance, if I have a block at a 60 degree yaw, and I want to change it so it slopes 15 degrees down it should be straight and not crooked. This is difficult to explain, It's easier for me to show you then tell you. Anyways, that's all I got, please comment below with what your options are on the matter.
  5. WHATS UPPPPP!!! Hey listen friends! so.. I LOVE forging.. my issue is... sometimes I feel like i'm the only one.. like seriously.. I want to start a group... or maybe join a group.. idk or maybe just make a friend :,( I love making slayer and objectives maps, but sometime I need that push for someone to help me out and give criticism or help me actually build.. THUS! im starting this thread! if any of you awesome friendly people like to forge as much as I do.. Id like to get a group going! id like this group to make maps for the purpose of Fun, but at the same time make maps that are professionally built for Multiplayer community forged maps.. My GT: v Zealous v and im ready to male a map with some one.. INTERESTED MUCH!? (this is basically a game invite.. as I am forging this very moment...)
  6. Good afternoon, or whatever time of day you may find yourself reading, community. I am a new user here, and have only just joined after finally coming from the Bungie forums. On to the topic, HALO 5 is coming in 2015, and HALO 6 was confirmed when HALO 4 was revieled as the beginning of a new trilogy, so, with the upcoming two games to be one a brand new, very powerful system, I want to discuss certain desires and additions to, namely, FORGE, and tweaks to help remind the world that HALO is king when it comes to Machinima making. (on console, anyways....) , while also incorporating methods from other titles to make an even more exciting experience. I want to start with what initially piqued my hopes, a quote about another XBOX ONE title, ARKHAM KNIGHT. "there are some insanely high polygon counts (one character model has the same as the Arkham Asylum environments)" While I know polygon count is not everything, it DOES leave me to wonder at possibilities. Apologies, but, prepare for a list, and a wall of text. FORGE TEXTURES : FORGE already allows you to change the color of an object, via, well, ITEM COLOR. Adding another category in that same option grid, TEXTURE, would it be possible to change the look of the item from the same tired Forerunner piece to say, on a ramp, for example; WOOD , STONE SLAB (one big piece of stone) , STONE BRICKS (stone bricks stacked and shaped), PLASTER (solid plain wall), WOOD PANEL (panels of wood) STEEL PANEL (panels of steel), and such, to help really give each map it's own feel? Updated Magnets : The magnet system in HALO 4 is a great addition, and can allow for brainstorming in amazing speed, but, it can be imprecise at times. So, why not modify the simple toggle of MAGNETS from on and off, to something more....utilitarian? My suggestion, MAGNET STRENGTH, with settings of NONE, showing no magnets in place, to BASIC, showing the HALO 4 Magnet grid, followed by POINT, where any hard edge point (sharp corners and the like) hold the Magnet points, and ending with FULL, where every edge of an item is covered in individual magnet points, allowing the user to place the items for certainty by "climbing" the magnet points until they reached the desired point. (this will be useful later, as well.) ITEM STATES : This is another aesthetic option for items, that would allow one to show FORGE pieces in damaged states, (think of Sword Base from Halo REACH BETA to Sword Base release), and in the same option grid as COLOR and TEXTURE, show options as "Clean", (no damage) "Scorch" (flame residue) "Bullet" (bullet holes) or other options and combinations. This could also be treated how the "Jersey Barrier" items can take damage and degrade, and show in gameplay. GAMEPLAY MOVEMENT : Halo's movement is great as is, but there's one game that gets me more involved through it's movement system, that's easily translated to HALO with no change of controls needed.... the Battlefield series. Slides and vaults and ladder climbing all bring me into the game and make for even more adrenaline moments, all which could be recorded easily with the XBOX ONE. These movements can be added with no trouble, and no changes to controls, really. SPRINTING is now a constant on Halo's control scheme, so, CROUCH from a SPRINT could make one slide into the crouch, yes? Possibly even prone. (not sure on that one, but, HOLDing CROUCH could function to make one prone, I suppose, and either JUMP, SPRINT, or CROUCH could rise your Spartan). As for Vaulting, (mantling, climbling, what have you), why not just HOLD JUMP towards an appropiate edge to have your Spartan (a SUPER. SOLDIER, mind you) just lift himself over that edge? Finally, ladders. May sound pointless, but it would be a simple addition that could allow map makers and machinima makers more leeway with layouts and rooms. How to make a ladder work in HALO 5 or 6? No, not the "Floating Walk" of Halo 1. "HOLD X TO USE" or whatever your Vehicle entry system is. Spartan's need not be defenseless during this, either, with full head tilt allowed, and a forced pistol, for defense or offence. Ladders could also be assembled in pieces from FORGE, with Magnet systems, with certain items having an option grid of whether or not they are a LADDER item in game. From RAINBOW SIX (mentioned shortly after this) we could also take WALL LEAN and COVER systems. Again, not much needs changed. Approach a wall, look at it , and click in your scope, to take COVER against it. LEANS and BLIND FIRE are easy additions from that simple addition. This may cause issues when strafing an entry way, but, if it snaps you into cover, it's not like it's causing you harm. CUSTOMIZATION : Another title that is a great FPS, that offers customization of ones armor, even their face, and adds tactical combat to the basic "SHOOT GUN RESPAWN" recipe, is the RAINBOW SIX titles (well, the VEGAS ones, anyways). If next gen consoles are as powerful as reputed, then, it should be able to handle sixteen players a match who may, if desired, have used the KINECT to scan in their face, as RAINBOW SIX did with the XBOX LIVE VISION camera, onto their Spartan's, and with a simple "X TO TOGGLE" when customizing their HELMET's, have gone into battle without one. "But what about all the vaccum enviroments that you come across?" Force helmets on those maps, which is why it's a TOGGLE, and not selection in the HELMET menu, so they still are showing a helmet they like. Go a step further, like RAINBOW SIX did, and have mouth movement during speech through the headset. Small impact on gameplay, GREAT impact on immersion and Machinima purposes. STANCES : Halo 4 implemented the STANCE cards, to show your Spartan in the player lobby, and while great, I feel an oppurtunity was missed, as Halo 4 also brought Weapon Commendations into the HALO game series. So, why not, if I've "Mastered" a weapon's commendations, give me two or three STANCE cards featuring that weapon, letting me show a little more of my preferences and style in the lobby? ARMOR / WEAPON SCHEMES : What I mean here, is, for more variety and showcasing, why not have certain armor chest pieces apply a skin to certain weapons? For instance, a Knight armor chest might change the energy sword to a broad sword, complete with new sheath, and the Hardlight Shield to a tower shield, while the Gravity Hammer into a greatsword. (for fun, let's through the FLAG graphic on the back for a cape), or, bring back the Katana armor, which would not only change your energy sword to a katana, but also change the look of your knife in assassinations, to a tanto or kunai? A BRUTE armor chest (perhaps a Brute Chieftain's armor) could change the gravity hammer into a large club. These would NOT effect gameplay, as they are only skins, after all. I'm out of time, so I can't go into detail of a proposed new gametype, a mix of FORGE and THEATRE, which would be for Machinima makers, turning the SCOREBOARD into an EMOTE selection, ranging from holstered weapons to waving, sitting, or more, but, what I have listed, I hope will cause other's to share their own thoughts and hopes, and maybe some opinions of my own. These are all changes that would not alter gameplay too far, while opening the game to even more potential directors and architects. So, discuss, and apologies for the wall of text.
  7. My name is Michael but my gamer tag is BlueDroid SWAT you can just call me Blue. I'm excited for forge in Halo 5: Guardians and H2A in master chief collection. I have ideas for tools used for halo 5's forge and they would be so helpful to forgers! Anyway my favorite armor varient is Gungnir and I'm always looking for new pals to enjoy halo with. So if you want to be my friend inbox me first or leave a reply then send me a friend request on Xbox live. I own an Xbox one and Xbox 360 I'm also hoping to gain some new friends that will forge for H5G and H2A for master cheif collection. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
  8. This topic titular, meaning that the title of the topic is self-explanatory of what the topic is talking about.
  9. I need a little help 343. I'm getting older, far from old but older. My memory never was the greatest and I constantly call people by the wrong name or forget their name altogether. Now you tell me I have over 100 maps at launch of the HMCC not including what will likely become a floodgate of maps in forge in the first few weeks. If Reach's Forge is any indication, I will once again be utterly lost as to which maps I am looking at in my map list. I could barely keep up with my own creations let alone some of the amazing Forge's out there. There was a time, a more rough and yet somehow simpler time. A time of UT99. Yes waaaaaay back in the past on Good Ol original Unreal Tournament where you could actually take a screenshot of your map creation and post it alongside your map name to be displayed in the playlist. Oh what a wonder it was to not have to look at 800 identical Forgeworld screenshots and guess the verb of the map you wanted to play. Please for the love of God allow us to set our own map playlist screenshot (or 3) so that those of us that control the playlist don't have to leave those of us waiting to participate in a game to suffer as we load 8 maps trying to find "the map". Bloody Mess Blood Gulch Blood Letter Coagulation Debilitation Obfuscation I find it much easier to find: Revenant Rampage Arena - - - - - - - - - - - - - Revenant Slam Fest Revenant Valhalla Revenant Zeta It's a bit of a big image but I was too lazy to resize and you get my point. Plus lets be honest being able to 'one touch' enlarge the map list screenshot would also be a nice Feature Please help me find my maps.
  10. I need some help building a new coaster/race map in halo reach tomorrow (THURSDAY) and was looking for volunteers the map will be on forge island as always. TIME: 2:30-4:30
  11. I am building a clan/city map for my clan and machinima. (That I'm trying to build EAK) I need some help and ideas in forge throughout the week and i am looking for forgers who have decent experience in Forge in Halo 4 and Reach. I have a general idea of how i want the map to look aesthetically but I'll need help with execution and development. Please reply here, on my profile or send a message to my gamertag if your interested. You will get credit for work done as I know and you know and you know i hope i know that we all know we hate to do work and someone take the credit. Looking to have fun while we do it as well. Looking forward to working with you all. (estimated times at which i should be online). Idea map build: Clan/city Tuesday 2:30-6:30pm est 9:30-11:00pm est Wednesday 2:30-3:00pm est 6:30-11:00pm est Thursday 2:30-3:00pm est 8:30-11:00pm est Friday All day Saturday 8:00-12:00pm est Sunday 6:30-12:00pm est
  12. I need some help and ideas in forge later today and i am looking for 1-3 players who have decent or amazing experience in Forge in halo 4 and reach please message me at my gamer tag for more information if you would like to help. I'll be on today from 2:30-6:30 est and 9:30-11:00 est Idea map build: Clan
  13. Improvements Custom game options: -Toggle bullet & grenade immunity -Toggle vehicle boost recharge -Allow gunner seat without driver -Toggle splatter damage -Toggle splatter damage for vehicles -Toggle Sprint (Symbol denoting disabled sprint at top-right of screen) -Toggle for first-person & third-person assassinations for gametype only (infection) (firefight), otherwise it'll effect the gameplay mechanics. -Toggle Descope Capture the flag: -Toggle one-handed & two-handed flag usage -Toggle ability to drop flag -Make options for 1-Flag. Add in: -Assault (Give it oddball customization) -Juggernaut -RACE -Infection (Remove flood) -INVASION (Merge it with dominion) -Elites get full support -No mention of an 'in multiplayer' story -Toggle dynamic lighting Specials -Introduce a dedicated package ($15-$25) which allows: precision theater features (motions presets and Machinima support), weapon tuning, Kinect adaptations (stances and in-game voice), and extra forge items. -Give community forge support in the form of an ongoing matchmaking playtest (play at your own risk). Players will be allowed to rate maps online and give suggestions. Players with maps that are successfully introduced into matchmaking may receive special armor (let's say, something nostalgic). -Machinima and fan art can be up-voted on Waypoint for the same armor. Players who reach a high enough skill rank in MM will receive another special set of armor. Forge -Ability to toggle cracks, crevices, nooks, crannies, and super-impositions on forge pieces individually (Eg: A flush clean object). These item blemishes are helpful in positioning forge pieces, but can deter from the map's feel. -If textures can't be changed, then we need a variety of forge pieces including: steel (must be there), corroded, creamy, rocky, and industrialized. -Ramps need more magnets, and bridges need magnets on their sides. There should be the ability to toggle magnetism for the same piece that you're holding, and only that piece. -Allow a Far Cry style terrain builder, but this isn't imperative. -There should be a forge page meant for for minimum and maximum frame rates and dynamic lighting budget. Pieces should be given a value based on processing, and not simplified into item limits. (Help me out on this one Twinny) -Scales to modify magnetism, FXs, weather (if not for canvas maps), customs settings, etc. Matchmaking (I'm not including Skill Ranks) -Maps available on release should include: 5 small maps (Skyline, Haven, Adrift), 3 medium (3/4th of Harvest), and 2 large (Ragnarok). The first DLC gives 3 large maps that are compatible with Invasion. The 2nd DLC will give 2 small maps and 1 medium. -All previous vehicles along with Forerunner vehicles & locust. -I would prefer more Arena style maps with tremendous elevation differences and medium/large maps with 360 degree background. (not the stupid x>180 degree backgrounds) -Column based medium/large maps are boring and stagnant. 343 needs to get some creative backbone, so follow the examples of Construct and Valhalla. -Give ricochet more time to bloom. (ILY) -Personal ordinances should be removed completely, and more options should be given for random ordinances (to the point where initial and random ordinances should be combined into one). In matchmaking, ordinances will be dropped from the sky by a UNSC ships, while forge ordinances are holograms. Ordinances will only be used on Big Team maps and forge maps. Weapons: -Gametypes on smalls maps will start with the assualt rifle, storm rifle (or replacement), or suppressor, and a magnum. The magnun can be nerfed from the Halo 4 variant. -Any gametype taking place on medium/large maps will retain loadouts with a choice of a magnum and another Forerunner secondary (not boltshot), and the obvious primaries. The magnum can be dual wielded but the Foreunner secondary can't. -All weapons return -Duel Wielding returns Main Menu & Music -The main menu was good, but the music wasn't. It needs to be sung by a man, and avoid high-pitched sounds. Violins and ambiance are good. During the campaign, percussion instruments in intense moments and action scenes will give off a great atmosphere. Firefight I don't believe that Spartan Ops has more replay value than firefight. Out of all the maps used in Spartan Ops, I would also expect a decent portion of Firefight maps. Imagine flood firefight and round customization. We need comedy (Comedy that doesn't get old. Rampant AI? lol) and objectives in firefight. They should probably introduce massive firefight matches in MM, to simulate Spartan Ops' objectives. I love you purple!
  14. Gamertag: Astiir Map: Modern Apartment Link: http://www.halowaypoint.com/en-gb/games/halo4/filebrowser/details/40391df9-a2f9-4f1e-86c7-5ffa52cd98d8 This is my latest and first aesthetic forge map. It's a rather large apartment that consists of a kitchen, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a T.V room. It has used silverware, an Xbox, microwave and much more scattered around the apartment. It's taken a while to build so hopefully it makes the cut : ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2bT5kPfoKI
  15. I am looking for a Forge clan (preferably Halo Reach). I consider my self a good forger and can add that aesthetic touch to maps. My IGN is Larick Faran
  16. Hey folks, request for me to join games on your custom maps, and offer constructive feedback towards your hard work. I am a fellow forger. My fileshare offers some examples of my work. I have a mic! So I'll see you all soon. Don't forget about that Ricochet forge contest! GT: TheBloodbath22
  17. I will need some ppl who I can rely on to help me test a maps effectiveness and maybe help forge with me. They need to be able to get on at EST early morning hours

    Water!

Why was the water so dumbed down in Halo 4? Not only is it that you die when you're barely knee-high in water, but there are no effects, the textures are cruddy and there aren't even any sound effects! It looks horrible, wouldn't you agree? Along with the many Forge aspects that Halo 4 lacks and Reach does better in, the water is definitely a priority in my view. Due to the mass quantities of water-based maps in Reach, the glitches unlocked and secrets found that allowed people to forge underwater, One would think that 343 would have taken the hint when creating the new Forge. No, I don't hate 343 for handicapping forge, it is their first Halo game (Besides Anniversary) and they even admitted to it being more of a learning experience than anything. But if the Forge in the next Halo game isn't improved on, and the water is treated the same way... Well it probably won't stop me from playing it, but I'll be super pissed! Thoughts?
  19. Anyone want to play some forge or 1v1? I have been wanting to test my skills for a while :3. Just hit me up, my GT is WardoMichael if you didn't know xD. Anyways I look forward to it. You can be any rank, legit I will take on an SR-130 to an SR-1 if I have to. But overall I would like someone in my rank range. Thanks, WardoMichael
  20. Good gosh it's been some time since I've gotten one of these done. I've been working on them believe me but with the laptop issue and school and work coming up things just really slowed down. This interview was maybe over a month in the making but one I was looking forward to. Ladies and Gentlemen, your September Member of the Month: Zandril: DD: "So Zandril, how long have you been Forging in Halo?" Z: "I forged a little in Halo Reach. But that was casual forging. I only started forging for real in Halo 4. So I guess you could say that I've been forging since Reach. :)" DD: "Casual Forging and Forging for real? So what divides the two? Is it the play-style of the map?" Z: "I think it is safe to say that the phrase casual maps is a category that are meant for maps that aren't very good for competitive gameplay. To understand the difference between the two categories, one merely needs to know what qualifies for competitive maps and for casual maps. I would define competitive maps as maps that can test the skill of an individual or a team and allow them to demonstrate their abilities in Halo. So, for me, competitive maps are maps that are designed in such a way that a player can show his skill at Halo. Of course, this is simply my opinion. I've heard other people say otherwise and cite different reasons. _________________________ Back in Reach, I forged obstacle courses, Horse maps, etc. Now in Halo 4, I forge competitive maps that are similar to maps that you'd see in competitive Matchmaking." DD: "Yea and I've looked through your maps and I'd say I'm quite impressed. So ForgeCafe? Is that your home forum?" Z: "Yes, I'd like to consider Forge Cafe my home forum. I love it mainly because of its community. The regular members there are as dedicated and friendly as one could ask for. The weekly Custom Game Nights can also be a blast to play in." DD: "Zandril how do you feel about the success of your Map Marker Pack? It was a great idea from the start and now it's blown up and is pinned on every map submission forum and recommended to be used by Forgers in the Meet Your Maker Dominion Forge Contest." Z: "I'm very happy about the success of my Map Marker Pack. If I counted the total number of downloads from the very first version to the latest, it'd be somewhere around 700 downloads. So yeah, I'm very happy with its success. My Map Marker Pack was actually inspired by Sillygoose's weapon blueprints. I used it a lot to improve the quality of my map posts and to give viewers more information about the map. But I noticed that the weapon blueprints don't always agree with the overview picture of a map in terms of contrast. So I decided to come up with my own weapon markers. And soon after that, I came up with images for gametypes, vehicles, and spawns. With some help from xAudienceofone from Forge Hub, I was able to make multiple styles for the markers making the Map Marker Pack what it is now. And I honestly didn't know about it being recommended for the Meet Your Maker Dominion Contest. But now that I do, then...yay! :D" DD: "Well that's amazing and I'm sure the number of downloads has doubled already! Zandril you post an incredible amount of maps in a short time and they're all beautiful for competitive play. These are maps that have time put into them it's clear. How many hours a week do you Forge would you say?" Z: "I'd say that I forge at most 5 hours total every week. This is mostly because during the weekdays, I'm stuck in my college and sadly, there's no Xbox there. The only time that I posted more than one map was just recently. About two days ago I posted three maps. This was because of a rainstorm that happened in my place that destroyed my internet connection. The silver lining is, classes were suspended for a week at my college, allowing me to forge for a whole week. I'm not saying that I forged nonstop for the whole week but I definitely spent quite a bit of time on those three maps. One of them, I started before the storm. So maybe I only made 2 and a half maps, if there is such a thing. Forging a good map requires time. And thinking. A lot of thinking. Back then, when I was still starting out as a forger, I made a lot of maps really fast. Sadly, all these maps came out mediocre because I was just placing pieces without any real thought process. Now, I'd like to think that I'm past my stage of mediocrity and am capable of producing a map that would really shine. Here, take a gander. http://www.343indust...ic/31044-xenos/ http://www.343indust...31045-praelium/ http://www.343indust...ic/31046-silex/" DD: "That's a little less Forging than I thought seeing as you post so many maps. I've taken a look at the last 3 you've posted and they look great. Thanks for providing the readers with the links. So Zandril! It's happened! Your work has been noticed and you're now 343i.org's newest Member of the Month? Are you totally out of your mind excited? Does it mean you might like us a little more than ForgeCafe *wink wink*?" Z: "Haha. I'm very excited about being 343i's new mother MoM. Out of mind excited eh? Uh, let me think. Yes! Uh, I mean, you know... no big deal. Liking 343i more than Forge Cafe? Allow me to present a list of my favorite forums. 1. Forge Cafe 1. 343i Community forum 1. Halo Customs 2. The rest We have a three-way tie!" DD: "I was only kidding but that's great to hear! I'm glad we made that big of an impression on you! So what makes those your top 3 Halo forums and what's different between the 3? What do you like most about each?" Z: "I love Forge Cafe because of it's community. A lot of the members there are very dedicated to the site and are very willing to help new members. They're fun guys to play Halo with too. Another thing that I like about Forge Cafe would be its friendly and more or less mature atmosphere. When you go into the FC shoutbox, there would be no curse words. No foul jokes. No cursing. Mostly because FC has an Oracle Bot that monitors the chatbox. But at least you can interact with it. Not to mention that the weekly FCCGNs (Forge Cafe Custom Game Night) are super fun. ___________________________________ Now, on to 343i. I like this place also because of it friendly atmosphere and community. But something that sets it apart from Forge Cafe would be all the events. One would be the Community Forge Project. I'd join the CFP if I had the time but college gets me pretty busy. Another thing I like about 343i are all the conversations. There's always a forum discussion that you can participate in. Forge Cafe and Halo Customs have their "dead" moments where there's like 2 guys in the entire site. I'm yet to see that happen here. ____________________________________ Now, for Halo Customs. It's simple why I love HC. Because of all the customs. I've lost count on how many hours of enjoyment Halo Customs gave me. There are customs happening everyday and it's not all map testing lobbies. There are lobbies for Flood. Lobbies for mini games. Lobbies for campaign. For Race. There are just so many to choose from and if one chooses well, he can have the best time." DD: "Well those are some of the best things about our site and the others. Speaking of Forging events, are you working on projects in our Forge Contests going on at the moment? The Free Roaming Flood Forge Off and The Meet Your Maker Forge Dominion Contest." Z: "Ah, those forging events. For the Free Roaming Flood Forge Off, I wanted to submit a map. But it turns out, my map doesn't qualify for the contest because I made it too early. It's a shame too. I honestly thought that my Flood map submission could've made it far in the contest. Not necessarily win the contest but make it far enough. It was the first Flood map that I've ever forged too. Despite that, I think the map turned out pretty well. Here's some pictures. ___________________________ I'm also not joining the Meet Your Maker Dominion Contest. For two reasons. One, I have college to attend to. Dedicating my time to a map would definitely get in the way of my studies and schoolwork and I'd rather not get distracted by a Forge contest. Two, I've never forged a map for big teams. As I understand, the proper amount of players needed for a Dominion map is more or less the same as the amount of players for a BTB map. I've only forged maps for 1v1 to 5v5. Haven't made one for 8v8 yet. And I'll still have to learn about forging BTB/Dominion maps as I have next to no experience to forging them. __________________________________ I wish I had the time to join both of them. But my personal schedule just didn't agree with the contests. Best of luck to the participants though." DD: "Wow those screenshots look great! I'm sorry you couldn't submit previous work Zan! And I'm sure everyone understands why you can't enter the Meet Your Maker Contest. It would've been awesome to see what you could do in that gametype though. So being mildly new to our community here at 343i.org, I'm sure you don't know that upon becoming MoM, each new one gets a MoM Wish that could be almost anything (within natural reason of course. For example, the Offbeat Forum is actually a MoM Wish of a previous MoM). Instead of asking you in your announcement thread I thought I'd ask you here and have everyone read it as one of your answers. So Zandril, if you had to make a MoM Wish, what would your MoM Wish be?" Z: "A MoM wish? This is quite the difficult decision. But I'm gonna make my wish a simple one. Can Zanny have a custom title?" DD: "You sure can! I hope you like it! Now Zandril, the community wants to know, what is your advice to the members that want to follow in your footsteps and make an impact on the Halo Community?" Z: "My answer: Easy. Just be willing to help anyone and everyone you can. Don't do it for the 'fame', do it because you genuinely want to help around in the Halo community. But know your own skills. That way, you can offer them at the area that will be able to make use of them the most. For example, you're good at forging. Then you give feedback to maps that don't get any. I guess I'm saying that you should stick to what you're good at. I'm no saying that you shouldn't try other things but it's important to know if a certain activity is just 'not you'. I can imagine if I gave tips to players on how to be a skilled Halo player. "You must abandon your teammates and rush the enemy position any time you want without and regard for teamwork!" That would have been a disaster. Another tip is, be nice. No one likes a ****** and if you get known for being one, it'll be very hard to get "******" off your plate. And, for one last tip. Listen to the people who are more successful than you. They most likely know what they're talking about and I'm sure you'll find their advice very helpful. That's all I can share because those are what I did to get where I am now." What an interview! That last answer was a little racy but hey! If you want to follow in Zan's great footsteps take that advice! Thanks guys for reading this, I know it was long but there were pictures! The pics were nice right? Thanks 343i.org and look out for some other good ones coming soon!
  21. Halo Xbox One thoughts on gameplay mechanics NOTE : The following is mainly personnel opinion and may not accord to your liking. Any feedback of personnel judgement would be appreciated, Thank you. I feel that Halo 4 had an amazing campaign and direction of story but I'm sure we can all agree that the multiplayer of the game feels unfinished. That is why I am going to share my thoughts on what I think could make the next Halo installment one of the most memorable in the series. One of my thoughts is that cooperative play should feel more interactive such as the ability to share ammo and even interactive gameplay mechanics to help players get to a certain unreachable point. For example, in Halo 3: ODST there were supply caches scattered across the map. Say your playing the campaign solo and you pass by a point of interest that could aid you but is unaccessible and only notified to you in co-op through your HUD. So if you were to go back and play the same sequence (this time in co-op) then your HUD would notify you maybe on your radar that there is supplies nearby. You or partner could give the other a boost and be pulled up to achieve supplies. The next thing I wanted to talk about was the melee combat. I have been saying that it would be cool if you could equip your knife or bare hands since Halo Reach was released and featured assassinations. If a player were to run out of ammo with his/her firearm they could then switch to their blade or fists by choice. This wouldn't just be for the overall look. If you had a rocket launcher, it'd have more damage behind it's swing than your fists or knife would. But if you were to smack someone with it, it'd have a slower swing than your knife or fists would have. It would also add a possible variety with each weapon to have their own initial assassination, similar to Gears of War's executions. I would also like to see the same with armor. If I am wearing the scout helmet or boots then perhaps I should have increased vision or movement. If I had the EOD armor set then I should have an increased resistance to explosives. I'd also appreciate a quick timed counter attack during assassinations. Now I know you're probably thinking of Battlefield 4's counter knife attacks and that IS where I drew my inspiration from but trust me, this is different. Say a button prompt pops up on your screen as you about to be assassinated. If pressed at the correct time it would prevent a player from killing you and a second prompt would become available but whoever presses it first finishes off the other. For example say a player controlled spartan (or possibly even elite if they return) is about to stab you in neck from behind. You press the button prompted at the correct time and your character grabs the others' arm and flips 'em over your shoulder but the person you just flipped trips you and you fall as well. Your enemy climbs on top of you and raises the blade, the second prompt pops up and the following occurs: 1. The enemy pressed the prompt first and shoves the blade in your chest 2. You pressed the prompt first and your character twists the blade around and forces your enemy to shove it through their throat or visor A counter prompt type of mechanic could even work for vehicle hijacks. One example could be you're driving the warthog and an enemy hops in the passenger seat like how they usually do so they can pummel you out. In this situation you'd hold down the melee button for the amount of time it takes to perform an assassination and you character kicks the guy out of the passenger seat and they fall out only to have the rear tire roll over their face causing instant death. If the other person performs this on you then you would meet the same fate only on the driver side and they get to commandeer the vehicle after you have fallen. One of the last things I'd like to share is the many possibilities of forge mechanics such as unlimited objects, movable objects, weather enhancements, and backdrops. Bungie and 343i added a budget system to keep us from lagging our maps and prevent render problems onscreen. I would greatly appreciate it if they would remove this system and replace it with something much like Far Cry 3's level editor where it'd tell you if the game's "performance" was high or low. It would also make maps more immersive and possible if objects could be set to a movable state through their trait settings such as setting it a coarse to move in rapidly, back and forth or have it move to a position and stay there. These events could be triggered by a player entering a boundary, trait zone or through a time set for this action to occur. This would be insanely helpful to create things such as doors, elevators, traps and even custom vehicles. Forge would also be a whole lot more immersive with a weather enhancement system. Again this is much like Far Cry 3's level editor but it could also add more atmosphere to custom maps and shouldn't effect the map's rendering at all if it's just a visual effect and doesn't alter the map's environment physically. Weapons and vehicles are the last subject I would like to discuss because it is completely my personnel opinion and if you don't feel the same then that's fine. That's the reason I wanted to share this last. I would like to see the flamethrower, SMG, plasma rifle, plasma repeater, sentinel beam, and all brute equipment (such as the brute shot, mauler, spiker, spike grenade, flame grenade, chopper and prowler) return. Night vision would also have a pretty sweet comeback as either an armor ability or armor installment (like sprint) if there were more levels where you actually needed it. Speaking of which, stealth missions were great and some of the stealth missions were the most memorable moments in the previous Halo games. If a couple new stealth based levels were to be implemented in the new Halo then night vision and a knife would become pretty handy (if usable). Now the vehicles are the last thing that I am going to discuss... When I see a perfectly intact vehicle whether it be civilian or military, I WOULD LOVE TO DRIVE IT! Why haven't we been able to operate any vehicle we'd like in a Halo game before? I mean sure, we could take construction transport vehicles for a ride in Halo Reach but for instance in Halo 2's level, "Metropolis" there were over a hundred different vehicles abandoned on the bridge and around the streets of New Mombasa for like three or four kilometers. Why couldn't we take one for a spin? It's not like the keys aren't already sitting in the ignition of an abandoned car that's perfectly intact, right? Anyway, I hope you appreciate what I had to share and all of the above are completely possible and fairly easy to program and implement into the game. Any feedback would be appreciated. Soon I should have a couple of videos uploaded to a community channel on YouTube known as the Halo Xbox One gaming news and reviews. I am the owner and only member of this community and I would greatly appreciate any feedback you'd like provide. 22. Hello Everybody, I am TheRedEyedDevil and I Forge Halo 4 racetracks. I have finished 45 racetracks and am pushin for 100 before the Halo 5 release. Current Projects: SKYTRACKS (5TH) Difficulty Unknown P 4 Pop-Up-Picture H 4 Halotracks W 4 Wormhole Smooth Ride Collsion Fusion 2 T 4 Transport SX v2 Besides making racetracks, I also make Mario Kart remakes such as the 4 batle mode maps off of Mario Kart 64. I also enjoy playing competitve gametypes with friends and testing competitive maps as well as racetracks in halo 4. Although I make racetracks, I don't really enjoy racing in tournaments, I only like to race with friiends for fun, not stress. I have 2 youtube channels: TheRedEyedDevil & ForgeHaloRecetracks (Recetracks is spelt with e because I mispelled it by accident) My main channel is TheRedEyedDevil, this is where I post all my creations. My other Channel ForgeHaloRecetracks or FHR for short is my professional channel where I do map reviews and other fun stuff. I haven't decided if I will ever post any of my sfuff up thier or not. If I do, I will either do a showcase or upload my favorates in video montage. (And yes I do have favoarates, I do admit not all my maps are good, but the last 15 or so have been prettty decent, my personal favoarates are as follows: SKYTRACKS (4TH), Collision Fusion, T 4 Transport SX, A 4 Alienation, Infectious Lagoon, Holy Waters, Stunt Jocky, Gold Peak SX, Colloidal Fever, and TRED's 45th. Besides video games, thier's not that much to tel. I have a B.S. degree in computer science and haven't started my career yet. I am very good at Billards Pool. Ironically I love swimming in the pool, not to big of fan of the beach, although body boarding was bun until I threw up. I have also been nee boarding and inner tubbing which are both very fun until skip across the water like a rock. I also enjoy running and cycling, although latly I havn't been very active with it. Being that I am strightedge and really enjoy forging on halo 4, I don't really have any use for socializing with many people, so really the only friends I have are from xbox or from college.
  23. Community Forge Project – Idea Discussion Here we can discuss generic map ideas for possible projects. This is meant to be a “Brain dump,” where we get some ideas onto the table and merge, refine, and discuss those ideas. Basic layouts or sketches on this page are fine, but detailed plans are asked to be postponed until the community wants to pursue further development for the map. Once an idea or set of ideas becomes popular, and the community decides to pursue designing and forging of the map, a new thread will be formed specifically for the map. There the ideas of the map will be posted and members can begin to true design and then forge the map. Please, no bashing of other’s ideas. Try to suggest refinements, offer positive criticism, and help the project generate good ideas. You may find many people agree to a set of ideas you do not like all that much. Do not be discouraged. Hopefully, many projects can be carried out simultaneously, and you can find out you would enjoy to partake in. Basic Suggestions for Generating Ideas: Consider player count, teams, and focus gametypes Consider how you want it to play (ie relaxed, social, or competitive) Structures, map flow, tac- jumps, size of map Map theme (ie Covenant shipyard, Human construction site, Forerunner, etc) Other ideas…. 24. Forge Planet- just two words that keep ringing in my ears. The desert, the shore, the jungle, the caves, the meadows, the forerunner architecture, the tundra, the volcano, the mountain, the islands, the human colonies, the ocean, the crash-landed covenant ship... It is the most beautiful place in the universe, all thanks to the Cloud, Only possible on Xbox One. Forge Planet on Halo 5? Is it possible with 8 GB RAM, 32 MB esRAM, 500 GB of storage, Blu-Ray discs, DirectX Tiled Resources and the power of the Cloud? You decide!
  25. Throw out some ideas you want to see in Halo 5 forge. Here's mine: 1: a. Useful, map changing aesthetics like burning vehicles (non-drivable), and they sould have smoke rising from the fire. b. SMALLER PIECES! I love 343 for making smaller aesthetical pieces like wires, but i want to see more. 2: a. Time effects like Nght, and Sunset. (I'd actually like to see a bar you can change like in Google Earth) b. Weather effects like Rain or Snow. This would make maps much more immersive, and help players visualize the kind of map you're aiming for. 3: Restrictions. Much like the Minecraft or Viva Pìnata TIP, you can set restrictions for other players ability to build/delete. I hate when random players join my forge, and begin to spam the Y button on my map.
