  1. Actually, the article confirmed that Halo 5's online co-op does not require Gold, to compensate for the lack of splitscreen.

I do think it's a shame that there won't be CGI cutscenes in Halo 5. I loved the CGI cutscenes for H2A, they looked amazing.

Josh Holmes corrected this in a blog on Halo Waypoint saying that there was miscommunication, you MUST have XBL Gold to play Co-op campaign, and Halo 5 Guardians will have a 14 day XBL Gold trial bundled with it.

  2. So from what we've heard, here's a little ranking list of all the main points that have been revealed so far about Halo 5 Guardians; I'd say at this point the good points outweigh the negatives, but they're still very much prevalent.

    THE GOOD

    • Halo CE-sized missions
    • "More than" 15 levels
    • Blue Team Returns. Play as them in Co Op
    • Buck returns. Play as him in Co op.
    • Players will be able to seamlessly drop in and out of Co op games without pausing or slowing the game
    • Over 20 maps on disc at launch
    • 15 planned future DLC maps will all be free
    • no loadouts
    • no ordinance
    • accuracy increase while scoping removed
    • Ranks can both increase an decrease
    • social playlists available for those that don't want to play ranked
    • Kazuma Jinnouchi (Metal Gear Solid composer) replacing Niel Davige as composer. Bringing back the main theme.
    • Creative Director is Tim Longo, best known as the project lead for "Star Wars: Republic Commando". Tim has stated that the game in many ways feels like a proper successor to RC. You can order your fireteam to hack, defend, target an enemy, or revive a fallen team squadmate.
    • Entire game runs at a consistant 60 fps.

    THE BAD

    • Invasion not returning
    • System Link not returning
    • Limit 2 players per console can play online multiplayer
    • No split screen Co Op
    • Online Co Op requires Xbox Live gold, meaning since there is no offline co op or split screen co op, the ability to play Halo 5: Guardians Co Op is essentially locked behind the Xbox Live paywall

    THE UNCERTAIN

    • Dual Wielding still not returning
    • Squadmates are present with you in EVERY mission, at all times, be them co op controlled or A.I. controlled.
    • Halo 5: Guardians is incorporating a "downed" system, similar to Republic Commando. If you are downed, you will need to be revived in a certain amount of time by a squad mate.
    • Resolution is still unclear. The beta ran at 720p. The final product has been confirmed to run "at a higher resolution"
    • Firefight may or may not be returning
    • Spartan Ops may or may not be returning

  3. No co-op campaign unless you have a Gold Live account?  Wow.....just wow.  So much fail in that marketing model I can't even begin to speak about it.  It's painfully obvious that 343i is only good at one thing...LIPSERVICE!  They have learned absolutely nothing at all in their development experience and it shows all too well.

Honestly after a miscommunication like that, I would've just rolled with it and allowed everybody to play it with Silver XBL. Going 1 step forward and 2 steps back is not a good idea for 343i at this point in time.

    CORRECTION!

Split screen is available, just limited to two players at a time. :)

Splitscreen is only available to multiplayer and only 2 people, not co-op campaign. In order to play co-op campaign, you have to pay for XBL Gold.

  5. Also 343i being responsible for an ongoing Graphic Novel series, Evolutions, 6 Halo Novel releases in these 2 years (Broken Circle last November, New Blood in March, everything else later this year.) and a total of 13/14 (Evolutions I+II were later released as one so it depends on perspective) novels released + 2 comic series' and three (Remember the Spielberg thing) live action projects and a bunch of other cool stuff that isn't as well known.

Yeah I have very little knowledge on much of any written/drawn media for Halo, so I cannot comment on that for a comparison, hence why I only selected my knowledge for their games.

Although I will say after reading all of Escalation, I wish that never even made it off ground floor, it's absolute garbage, even if it's a bit comical.

  6. Bungie made a good first 3 games and ODST. That is all. And that's in terms of gameplay. Do you have any idea how much crap Bungie spewed that 343i had to cover for to make everything canonical? Well the entirety of Halo: Reach is only a part of it. 343 is doing everything to give fans what they want right now with MCC and Halo 5. If ya wanna play Bungie's games, no one's stopping you. They're there on the MCC brought to you by 343i.

    If I may point out what Bungie did right and wrong in short;

Halo CE is objectively the best Halo game they made. The story was almost flawless, the multiplayer was flawless for what technology was available and without a doubt made the Xbox sell.

Halo 2's multiplayer was the worst coded in the series, but had a love/hate story with great story telling.

Halo 3 had the best built multiplayer with a story that seemed lacking to some as a concluding game, great innovation with Theater Mode and Forge.

Halo 3 ODST had the best story telling (not story itself) and suffered from a terrible design choice to not include matchmaking in Firefight, great to add the Mythic Maps to Halo 3 though.

Halo Reach had a satisfying story but ruined every established lore regarding Reach, Blue Team and Pillar of Autumn. The best designed Forge and improved Firefight along with campaign matchmaking.

    And for 343i

Halo CE:A is simply a remaster and really didn't have anything to be critised about, it wasn't even fully developed by 343i.

Halo 4 took a sharp turn in the multiplayer which did and did not work, however was eventually fixed from constant work and communication with the community. The story was lacking however showed a bit of promise to bring a new 343i twist on the series, forge was inferior to that of Halo Reach

Halo Spartan Assault/Spartan Strike offered nice little campaigns giving backstory to characters and happenings in the universe, but shouldn't be considered too highly as a Halo game since it lacks so much of what makes Halo, Halo.

Halo MCC failed miserably and should be considered as one of the biggest launch failures in modern history for games, Halo 2:A was remastered at a great level, however the massive amounts of problems with achievements and multiplayer give this launch a nasty stigma. The Halo 2:A forge would be the best in the franchise, if not for frame rate issues when high amounts of objects are phased together or stuck through magnets

Halo 5 Guardians Beta showed great promise of true Halo evolution from Halo 4, and offered a feel similar to Halo 3's. The lack of balance and player fairness from Halo 4 was removed to an even playing field that being of an Arena.

From that short list it's very clear that Bungie were never perfect and only had one truly god game in their development for the Halo franchise, being the first they made (funnily enough not being controlled by Microsoft). However, they never ever once stood up and apologised for their actions or even admitted they did things wrong. They only praised their games and themselves (luckily that's changed with their attitude from Destiny). 343i on the other hand have always been open in their failures and success, and try their best to work a community that hates itself and cannot work at all together.

From that, that's how I can establish that 343i are a much better Halo developer than Bungie. As production studios themselves they're equal (see the change in the culture at Bungie due to Destiny), but for Halo, 343i is superior in more aspects than Bungie.

  7. 343i > Bungie

Bungie screwed up so much, but like Nintendo, people like to pretend it never happened and only speak highly of them.

343i have always admitted to their mistakes and try their best to work with the community to create content they want.

  8. I'm going to assume you're talking specifically about Halo Wars, since that's where you posted.
Next to no one plays the game online in matchmaking anymore, your best option is to find a couple of friends to play against in custom games.

If you're talking about Halo in general, MCC constantly has championship series on Twitch and 343i are deadset on making Halo 5 Guardians the best format of online competitive gameplay we've seen for Halo, and from what we saw in the beta it looks like they have the potential to deliver.

  9. Roc Strike playlist in the Vanguard. Crota's End gives you Raid gear and exclusive weapons. Doing Crota's End at Deathsinger and Crota gives you a chance for exotic weapons, same with Gorgon's chest and Atheon battle in Vault of Glass. Then you have Xur.

  10. Getting Vanguard Rep; Vanguard Bounties, Daily Heroic, Weekly Heroic, Weekly Nightfall, Vanguard Strike Playlists, Public Events.

Getting Crucible Rep; Crucible Bountries, Crucible/Iron Banner.

Getting Vanguard/Crucible Marks; Same as above, depending what you do will give you higher/lower amounts of it.

Ranking up Crucible Factions; Complete any of the above with the faction player item equipped.
