    • Capcom's reimagining of Resident Evil 3 has only been out a couple of days now, but the company already wants to know if fans want more remakes in its vein. A new survey aimed at the Asian market that ends May 31 includes two relevant questions: While it's not necessarily clear which Resident Evil game Capcom would remake next, there are two likely candidates. 2000's Code: Veronica continues the story of sibling protagonists Claire and Chris Redfield, and is generally considered the true sequel to Resident Evil 2. Though 2005's Resident Evil 4 stars Leon, another character from RE2, it took the series in a completely different direction, away from the evil Umbrella Corporation. Though both games have received HD re-releases over the years, the remakes of 2 and 3 draw heavy inspiration in their style and control schemes from RE4. By contrast, Code: Veronica is a half-step between the fixed camera angles and tank controls of the series' early entries towards its more modern formula, which makes it feel dated, even though it and RE4 were released in the same console generation. It's unclear whether or not a hypothetical Resident Evil 8 would follow more in the mold of the stripped-back first-person approach of Resident Evil 7 or hew toward the third-person action of the RE3 remake, which we weren't fully impressed with. In our review, critic Alessandro Fillari called it disappointing. Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article

If you're looking for discounts on Steam games, Fanatical just kicked off another big sale in time for Easter, marking down the prices on thousands of games. Capcom's latest remake is down to $46.79 as part of the sale, the best deal yet on this new release. If you're looking for a way to play board games online with friends while we're all social distancing, Tabletop Simulator is a fantastic solution. The Steam game allows you to play and create digital versions of board games on PC, and there are thousands of fantastic mods for many of the best board games. • Being stuck at home can suck, but the Switch has a lot of great games that can keep you busy. Some of these games work particularly well with a GameCube-style pad--like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Animal Crossing: New Horizons--and if you're a fan of the classic controller then Amazon has a great deal on the Fight Pad Pro for $20 or less. PDP's wired Fight Pad Pro controllers feature the designs of different Smash Bros. Ultimate characters, and four of them are on sale right now. This includes versions for Princess Peach, Luigi, and Link for $20 as well as a Mario design for $18.79. Each controller is functionally identical apart from the colours and emblem. See the Fight Pad Pro at Amazon Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • If you've ever wanted to feel all those calories your Chosen Undead burns while they roll their way through those tricky Dark Souls boss-fights, you might soon have the chance. Super Louis 64, a streamer known for crafting or modding unusual controllers, has modified Ring Fit Adventure's Ring-Con to work on PC, and he posted several clips of himself using it to play Dark Souls 3. According to his tweet thread, the mod checks whether or not the Joy-Con strapped to your leg is in motion--you can only use the left thumbstick to move when you exceed its threshold. You also have to perform a full squat to heal with your Estus Flask. In a future update, Louis says that he plans to use the Joy-Con's D-pad to adjust that threshold, to avoid fatigue issues. While the mod clearly works, Louis says he needs to make a few user-friendly modifications before he makes it available for public consumption. This isn't the first time that the streamer has used an unusual controller to try to beat Dark Souls 3. According to his website, he's beaten the game with a Dance Dance Revolution dance pad, a fishing rod, a DJ Hero turntable, and many, many more. For example, his YouTube channel has clips of him beating one of the game's hardest bosses with the bongos from the GameCube game Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat. • The third-person cover-based shooter Gears 5 will hold a free trial period across PC and Xbox One not long after developer The Coalition introduced a new update to the game. Gears 5's free play period runs from April 6-12 on PC (both Steam and Windows 10) and Xbox One for subscribers of either Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate. Having an active membership with either subscription is the only requirement to play Gears 5 for free. Also available for free is Dave Batista's old WWE finisher, which can be acquired simply by playing Gears 5 now through April 20. And if that's not enough, you can also get a Batista skin for use in-game. Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • A brand-new Inside Xbox livestream is scheduled to air on Tuesday, April 7. While it won't have any new details about the Xbox Series X, Xbox confirmed that the broadcast will cover a ton of games--like Gears Tactics and Sea of Thieves--as well as the tech specifications for its next-gen console. The broadcast will go live tomorrow at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 9 PM GMT. You can expect Xbox to cover a slew of games, present some surprises from its [email protected] and Xbox Game Pass banners, and more. Further, Jason Ronald, Xbox Series X's director of program management, will "discuss the recently revealed technical specifications and what they mean for gamers." The livestream is expected to last approximately 30 minutes or so and can be watched on Facebook, Mixer, Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube. You can also check it out below. • Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer component of GTA 5, is bringing back one of its Halloween treats for a limited time. The Alien Survival Series and Peyote plants from the Halloween 2019 event are both back through April 13. Alien Survival ran for a limited time last year, consisting of seven Survival modes scattered around the map featuring armed aliens. Peyote plants are similarly bizarre, putting you into a hallucination in which you wake up as one of several animals--including a couple of secret ones like Bigfoot. You can snap out of the hallucination at any time and wake up in a hospital with awarded RP. This is the first time either has reappeared in the game since last Halloween, though Rockstar does seem to like occasionally embracing its wacky side. • If you missed the mafioso open-world game Mafia 2 when it first came out in 2010, you might soon be able to play it on current-gen consoles for the first time. As first spotted by Nibel, entries related to the Mafia series have appeared on the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee site, including definitive editions for Mafia 2 and 3, and a complete edition for Mafia 3. These new releases would be on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Mafia 3, the latest entry in the series, first came out in 2016 to a somewhat-muted reception. While reviewers praised its storytelling--especially its protagonist, the black Vietnam vet Lincoln Clay, who wages a war against the Italian mob depicted in the first two games--others panned it for its simplistic mission structures and panoply of bugs. In our review, critic Scott Butterworth called it "frustratingly repetitive." According to Take-Two's latest earnings report, the developer behind Mafia 3--Hangar 13--is working on an unannounced game. While it could be a sequel to the series, given the fact that Mafia 3 shipped a record-breaking number of units, it's not at all clear as of yet. The CEO of Take-Two expressed disappointment in the game's review scores, and there were some layoffs at Hanger 13 following the game's release. View the full article
    • The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is just days away, finally delivering the first part of a remaster that fans have been anticipating for years. Square Enix previously boasted that it's as long as other Final Fantasy games, but that allows for a wide degree of variance. So how many hours can you expect it to last? Based on our experience, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will take roughly 40 hours to beat if you play it at a regular pace with some side-missions. Completing all of the side missions and end-game content will make the experience longer, at approximately 45 hours. Reviews have started to come in for the FF7 Remake, and they appear largely positive. GameSpot's FF7 Remake review from Tamoor Hussain was positively glowing, awarding it a rare 10/10--a score shared with only a handful of games throughout the site's history. • The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is just days away now, and if you plan to get it digitally through the PlayStation Store you can start downloading the game now. Square Enix announced that pre-loading is now available, letting you have it all ready to go in time for launch day. Pre-ordering digitally also nets you a PS4 theme. Digital may well be the way to go for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as physical copies appear to be hard to come by in some territories, in part due to supply disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, Sony has started to slow download speeds to help ease demand and increase reliability. With four days to go until launch you should have plenty of time to complete the 85 GB download. Reviews for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake have come in and they're largely positive. GameSpot's Final Fantasy 7 Remake review has joined the rare company of 10/10s. Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
