    • The Switch has played host to some surprising ports of PS4 and Xbox One games over the years, including The Witcher 3 and Doom, but with the next generation of consoles on the horizon, some fans are wondering whether titles designed for PS5 and Xbox Series X will also get Switch releases. But one developer that has built a reputation as a good Switch port studio is encouraging game studios to not leave the Switch behind. Virtuos Studios has handled some of the biggest ports on Nintendo Switch, including Dark Souls Remastered, LA Noire, and the upcoming port of The Outer Worlds. Now, in an interview with Maxi Geek, the studio's vice president Elijah Freeman has expressed optimism in being able to continue developing ports of new games for the Switch. "We believe that 2020 will be the year of game-centric development," he said, "where players will expect as standard a consistency of experience with their favorite games." He says that, with new consoles right around the corner, "developers need to strategize and plan for the game experience to be consistent across all platforms. At Virtuos we are charged up and full of talent that is ready to help bring these new games to the Nintendo Switch." Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • Sony recently delayed The Last of Us: Part II indefinitely due to the global COVID-19 crisis, and now director Neil Druckmann has commented on the delay and responded to a number of key questions. Discussing the delay on the latest PlayStation Blogcast, Druckmann said it's a big bummer to have The Last of Us: Part II delayed yet again. "It's a bit rough," he said. "You're working on something for so long; for some of us, for years. There is a built-in anticipation; you can't wait for this thing that you've been crafting and honing and sometimes dreaming about. You can't wait to get it into people's hands, and see their reactions; what they like, what they didn't like or where the story takes them. And now you gotta put all that on hold because the world is conspiring against us." Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • Microsoft is going to push its smartphone-style All Access subscription program for the Xbox Series X launch later this year. Speaking to IGN, Spencer said Microsoft is looking to "go big" with Xbox All Access for the launch of the Xbox Series X later this year. In fact, Spencer used the plural, saying Microsoft will "go big with [Xbox All Access] at the launch of the consoles." He might have simply misspoke, or he might have been referring to Microsoft's previously discussed plan to launch more than one next-generation console this year. In addition to the Xbox Series X, Microsoft is reportedly working on a lower-cost next-gen Xbox under the codename Lockhart. The "Series X" name designates the model name of the next-gen Xbox, which leaves room for Microsoft to release more next-generation consoles beyond the one we know about. Star Trek Online is also running a First Contact Celebration from April 2 to 23 on PC and April 9 to 30 on Xbox and PS4. April marks the month that Vulcans and humans first made contact in 2063, and players can participate in in-game activities like launching their own rockets and work their way towards obtaining a Temporal Vortex Probe. For a detailed breakdown of what the Borg pack includes, the Borg Lock Box Weapon will let players choose between Borg ground or Space Weapon when opened. The Borg Bridge officer pack will let players choose one Borg Bridge Officer to add to the crew. • Fortnite creator Epic Games and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Games have teamed up to release a mobile game for iOS and Android called Spyjinx, a game long in the works. In 2015, J.J. Abrams and Epic Games announced that Spyjinx was in development and a closed beta would be available in 2016. Obviously, that didn't happen and now, four years later, the dev team has released more details and is finally inching the game closer to launch. From the limited information currently available, Spyjinx appears to be about secret agents and espionage schemes. Game objectives such as creating and protecting your own hideout and infiltrating other players' hideouts looks like a major component of the gameplay. Spyjinx is a mix of "action-strategy gameplay, RPG character development, and head-to-head multiplayer," according to Epic's description. Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • We're living in strange times right now and the news is pretty heavy. A lot is going on in the world, so it's super important to stay informed on the latest. But it's also important to make sure that we try not to let it consume us and make an effort to remember that there's still a lot of good things happening. It might sound silly, but when times are trying it's important to try and have a laugh once in a while. And that's exactly what we're here to do, both for ourselves and for you. Every week, here on Good News Gaming, we're going to highlight uplifting news stories that may have passed you by in the midst of the hustle and bustle of online news. We're going to chat about the good things that are happening, enjoy some weird memes, and just all try and smile. Kicking things off, we take a look at the charming and inventive ways people are using Animal Crossing: New Horizons to connect with their loved ones--in a time of social distancing, Nintendo's wholesome island life sim is strengthening our bonds with friends and family. We also highlight how gaming companies are helping COVID-19 charities, and finish up with a random assortment of some daft and fun things people are doing in games like Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord and Half-Life: Alyx. • Microsoft recently kicked off an Xbox One digital games sale, and now it's discounting a number of its Xbox One X console bundles and controllers. If you're looking to pass the time while you're stuck at home, then the Xbox One X is an excellent console to help you do exactly that. It's the most powerful console on the market right now, capable of greater performance and resolutions than the standard Xbox One. Each bundle comes with an awesome game, and if you need an extra controller, then there are plenty of deals on those as well. The Xbox One X bundles are all currently $300 and include Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Forza Horizon 4 (with the Lego Speed Champions DLC), NBA 2K20, and Gears 5. There are two options for NBA 2K20: the standard black console and a gorgeous paint-splattered Hyperspace-edition Xbox One X. The Gears 5 bundles also let you choose between the standard console and a special edition with a unique design--both bundles also come with the entire mainline Gears of War series. A number of Xbox One controllers are also discounted. Standard controllers, such as the White, Grey/Green, and Grey/Blue variations, are on sale as are some special edition controllers like the Midnight Forces II, Armed Forces II, and Night Ops Camo pads. And if you want to design your own, Xbox Design Lab controllers and NFL Design Lab controllers are $5 off. Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • Back when the Nintendo Switch console first released in March 2017, I started looking for the best Nintendo Switch controller to make all my games play just a bit better. While the current model (which sports improved battery life over the launch model) is great, the tiny, flat Joy-Cons at the console's sides leave something to be desired (at least the Switch Lite has an actual D-Pad). Thankfully, Switch players have all kinds of options when it comes to Nintendo Switch accessories. Whether you prefer to play the Nintendo Switch console with a PS4 or Xbox One controller, play using the Joy-Cons while they're charging, or just love gaming on the go, there's an accessory tailor-made for you. You can even make the console more comfortable by improving the grip on the console itself, so you don't drop it and damage the screen (though you should probably still get a tempered glass screen protector, just in case). The official Nintendo Pro controller is still the best Nintendo Switch controller for the console overall (it has a great battery perfect for long gaming stints, easy charging, and can be used with a Nintendo Switch dock or even if you're using the console in tabletop mode), but it's also somewhat pricey. But even if you're looking for something else, we're on the case. Whether you're looking for a cheaper Switch Pro alternative or just want something with a different grip while you play Minecraft, we have a number of other gaming options at our disposal without having to resort to a Switch mod; third-party companies like 8Bitdo and PDP have introduced some great alternatives to the Pro controller that account for personal preference while also introducing new features not found in first-party Nintendo Switch accessories. Not all of these Switch accessories are winners, but I've tested and identified some of the best Nintendo Switch controllers (most of which also work with the new Switch Lite, by the way) if you need something a little different at a more affordable price.
