  1. I want to mention that I'm going to hold off on considering any of these contest submissions for features until after the contest has been judged in order to avoid stepping on anyone's toes.
  2. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Dog for everything he's done for the site. I may not quite be a regular here, but as a site affiliate I would like to say what a pleasure it has been to work with someone so committed and passionate about this website and the Halo community at large. A community manager can really make or break a community, and it's quite clear that AD has made a huge positive impact on this site and on the greater Halo community by extension. It has been my pleasure to work with this site and, in turn with AD, and I look forward to seeing what the future will bring regarding the partnership between THFE and 343industries.org. Dog, thank you for everything you've done. I look forward to continuing to work with you in the future on other projects.
  3. Your call. Pick what you think would fit the map best (and I'm not talking in how they look). I haven't played the map, so I can't say what would be best.
  4. The weapons you place on your map should be decided by the map's design, not by the color. The Forerunner weapons are all poorly designed to varying degrees: the binary rifle and incineration canon are flat- out overpowered, the scattershot is incredibly inconsistent, the bolts got is terrible as a secondary, etc. forget about the color, and pick weapons that actually fit the map in how they play rather than how they look. And in what way would you suggest rockets are overpowered, Rayner.
  5. This looks like a well-forged map which I would be happy to try out. However, your choice of power weapons scares me. Both the binary rifle and the incineration cannon are extremely overpowered weapons. I would argue that neither weapon can be balanced by a map's geometry, as they are both fundamentally broken. So, what say you to replacing those weapons with, say, a sniper rifle and a rocket launcher respectively?
  6. I think he was referring to Sword Lord's horrible joke, not Conversion itself.
  7. A Conversion contest is something that we've given quite a bit of thought to. However, Conversion is an extremely complicated gametype to forge for. Learning about all of the labeling is easy enough, but designing a good Conversion map is no mean feat, and these maps also require a lot of testing to perfect. We already saw a significant drop in the quantity of submissions with the second Meet Your Maker contest because it was a more complex mode to forge for (Dominion). Conversion is even more complex than Dominion in many ways, and because of this we feel that there would not be enough quality maps submitted for the contest to be a success. I'm not saying it won't happen, but I will say that it is somewhat unlikely at this time.
  8. I tested this map last night. I only played one game, but I have some rudimentary feedback in here: http://halocustoms.com/posts/78336/
  9. Zandril brings up quite a good point. As much as I love being able to provide feedback for maps during the testing phase, finding time to do that for even a fraction of the maps submitted is impossible. Having fewer submissions, but each at a polished state would vastly streamline the process and allow me to actually find more feature worthy maps. Having a mp featured or put in matchmaking should never be the entire goal of creating a map. If you're forging, you should be doing so for the love of creating, designing, and playing them. Furthermore, carrying a map on to completion is the best way to improve as a forger and to have more knowledge to apply to future projects. When you're someone like me who goes around trying to look for maps to feature, there's nothing more frustrating then seeing a map with potential and spending hours and hours helping it get where it needs to be to receive a feature only to see it fall short of the mark in the end. As much as I like to when possible, it isn't my job to help maps get to where they need to be in order to be featured. I'm just here to feature the best of the best. Again, I enjoy helping forgers improve their maps but this is very limited by time constraints. So, the bottom line is this: posting unfinished maps to get feedback throughout the testing process is fine but it's going to dilute my ability to actually find the maps that are finished and ready to go. When you submit more maps than I have time to look at, you're hurting your chances of me actually finding the one or two of them that might actually be worth featuring. You say that you have a few maps that you think are truly worthy of features, but how could I be expected to find those when I have to sift through a bunch of unfinished maps first? Again, recognition should not be the end goal of your forging, but merely the icing on the cake.
