#393688 Sight Pole 434: MCC Coming to Playstation and Switch

Posted by Maestro on 01 April 2019 - 09:39 AM

hi guys, Maestro's here with another sight pole, the 434st one actually. In the last pole, everyone concluded that it's much easier to slide up a pole than it is to go down and that licking frozen metal ones is a great way to have some wintertime fun

totally unrelated, 343 dropped another big announcement late last night that Halo will be coming to the Playstation 4.5 and Nintendo Switch S Nintendo, ripping consumer and investor expectations. After emerging from a Cadillac SUV with blacked out windows in a weird-smelling cloud of fog somewhere in Vancouver, Frankie, Bonnie, Shigeru, green Mario, and some guy from Sony told my uncle's friend who works for Polygon that "the MCC will go wherever you want it to" and then asked for some Doritos. Yeah, that's a thing that happened.

So My question for you is; what will happen to the XBox now that Fortnite's dying?

#393683 Site Poll 103: the MCC on PC and You

Oh yeah, because so many people sent pizza to 343 after the MCC announcement, you can get a pizza skin for the AR called Last Slice if you play Halo 5 online starting today. If you wanted to destroy your foes with a pepperoni pizza, now's your chance!

This is going to be big for Halo. You can distrust 343 still, fine, but you have to give them credit for doing what everyone has asked for. They're bringing Reach back into our lives on current-gen and they're porting it to PC with everything else. It's incredible.

I am big time HYPE. I will NOT be playing on PC. I'm console all the way but like I said, you gotta love it.

Wondering how this will affect Xbox sales though????

I don't think 343 should be worried about marketing the Xbox. That's Microsoft's problem. 343 has enough work cut out for them marketing their own products.

#393664 Site Poll 103: the MCC on PC and You

Posted by Maestro on 12 March 2019 - 08:32 PM

Hello everybody! It's Maestro here with Site Poll 103!

To recap the previous poll from what feels like ages ago, everyone agreed that Infinite will be released on Xbox and mostly agreed that it would be on PC as well.

Speaking of Halo and PCs, 343 Industries made a HUGE announcement earlier today: the Master Chief Collection will be released on PC and Steam, and Reach will be added to it on all platforms!

So my question for you is:

How do you feel about this news? Are you excited for it or are you freakin' HYPED for it?

I'm looking forward to seeing your thoughts and opinions on it!

You can also answer on our Twitter page.

#393372 Site Poll 97: Which Alpha-Nine member do you like most?

Posted by Maestro on 28 October 2018 - 03:25 PM

You can't go wrong with the Rookie. He's the only truly silent protagonist in the entire series which makes the experience in ODST truly immersive. Until you link up with your squad, you have no contact with other people in the dead of night. The silence heightens all your senses, puts you on edge when you hear the slightest sounds, and makes battles that much more intense because you're outnumbered at least 3:1 in most cases.

#393336 Site Poll 95: The future of the Reclaimer Saga?

Posted by Maestro on 10 October 2018 - 11:39 PM

I've loved Halo since I was a kid, but I think all stories must come to an end or else they lose their meaning. I'd hate to see the series become a soap opera, a tale that never ends for some reason. As a story-driven series, Halo deserves an epic finale and the Chief deserves to go out like the hero he truly is. They could make as many spinoff games as they want, exploring new locations and different time periods in the Halo universe, but the Chief's story arc must end somewhere. Along the way to that ending, however, I just want the story to be good, the gameplay to be fun, and the microtransactions dead in a hole.

As for the actual questions, here's what I'm predicting:

Number of episodes in the Reclaimer Saga? 4. Four episodes in this saga would mean the Chief has appeared in 7 games... and the number 7 has appeared throughout the series in many forms. It would only be fitting for his story to end in Halo 7.

Final ending? From an artistic perspective, I sure hope so. But from a business perspective, probably not. The Halo franchise is worth billions, so Microsoft won't let it die unless it's no longer profitable.

Surpass the original trilogy? Unless they can repair the damage from Halo 5, hell no.

#393275 Site Poll 93: Who's your favourite Captain/Shipmaster?

Posted by Maestro on 19 September 2018 - 08:00 PM

I pick Lasky. He has a unique and daunting challenge ahead of him, as he has to develop tactics to defeat the remainder of the Covenant, hordes of Prometheans, and rampant AIs who can predict his every move and effectively cripple humanity's computer networks and electronics. Despite all of this, he keeps his cool and stays levelheaded.

#393273 Weapons in Halo Infinite

Posted by Maestro on 19 September 2018 - 07:47 PM

I want the Halo Reach Concussion Rifle. Every single enemy and ally should have one. Make it Halo: Infinite Concussion Rifles.

I don't see a reason for Reach-exclusive weapons to come back because the Covenant Armory would be in shambles at this point. But I'd like to see the Concussion Rifle, Plasma Launcher, Needle Rifle, and the classic Plasma Rifle make their triumphant returns. I'd also like to see Promethean weapons have different coloured bolts so you can tell which Promethean has which weapon you're being hit with. The power weapons and Light Rifles are easily identifiable, but Boltshot and Suppressor rounds are almost indistinguishable. Sentinel Beams would be pretty rad.

As for human weapons, I do not want to see the Sticky Detonator. It was useless and could easily be replaced with proximity mines.

#392973 Site Poll 78: What's your favourite vehicle?

Posted by Maestro on 01 June 2018 - 08:50 AM

I like the Spectre. For all intents and purposes, it fills the same role as the Warthog, only it's more maneuverable and can carry an extra passenger. Its campaign debut is really cool; you get to mow down all the Flood in your way and trash Sentinels and Enforcers, and you could give your Elites in the passenger seats Rocket Launchers to greatly boost your firepower, all while listening to some sick guitar riffs.

#392929 Site Poll 76: What's your favourite mission?

Posted by Maestro on 15 May 2018 - 09:28 PM

It's hard to narrow it down to just one, but I'll list my favourites from each game:

  • CE: Keyes. This level is chaotic but fun. You don't have any allies, so you get to destroy anything that moves. I like it more than Two Betrayals because it's easy enough to navigate, somewhat short, and the hardest enemies in the game make their debut. The atmosphere and the chaos tell you that :censored: has officially hit the fan in full force.
  • 2: Gravemind. This may be one of the hardest levels in the whole series, but it's a cinematic masterpiece. Like Keyes, the toughest enemies in the game make their debut here, and you witness the Covenant fall apart firsthand. There's no exposition, no cutscenes (I'm looking at you, Halo 5), you see the chaos unfold around you as you play the level. When the Covenant is fighting each other, you can let them duke it out, pick a side and kill the winner, or mow everything down yourself. Many people hate it because the first battle is excruciatingly painful, but my opinion of it hasn't been tarnished by trying it on Legendary... yet.
  • 3: The Ark. I can see why people love this level. You start out sniping enemies with a squad of ODSTs, and then you get to cruise through the desert on vehicles until the last quarter of the level. You can find more Fuel Rod Guns than you know what to do with, and have so many options in each encounter. Playing this level on Legendary is a blast, and it's even more satisfying when you're able to keep any ODSTs until the end.
  • ODST: Data Hive. It's an odd choice, but it's because of the story. Throughout the game, you learn what happened to your squad but don't really have a clear idea of what the mission was until you finish Kikowani Station. Then you hear Dare's SOS and fight off a squad of Brutes led by a Chieftain to descend into the Drone-riddled depths of New Mombasa. The eerie atmosphere and the culmination of your efforts have led to this and the effect is intoxicating.
  • Reach: New Alexandria. The level's mood and atmosphere send the message that humanity is losing and hope is lost. It's also pretty fun to fly the Falcon and shoot down hordes of Banshees and Phantoms with the chaingun, and the secrets scattered throughout the level are entertaining. If nothing else, I like this level because I can party with Grunts and Brutes in the nightclub.
  • 4: Reclaimer. You can do some pretty cool skips and there are almost no Prometheans you have to fight. It's one of the least painful missions in the game.
  • 5: The Covenant. This level is so much fun. You start with a Spartan Laser and- wait, you mean writing +2 on my Halo 3 disc doesn't count as Halo 5? Damn. Then I guess the winner is the Breaking, not because it has fun gameplay or a huge impact on the plot but simply because it has awesome music, pretty lights, and I got the achievement for beating it on Legendary without dying on my first try.

#392916 Site Poll 75: Who are you favourite enemies to fight?

Posted by Maestro on 12 May 2018 - 05:21 PM

I enjoyed Halo 3's Covenant a lot. While they weren't as diverse as Halo 2 or Reach, Bungie designed them very well and the three most common species have a nice synergy.

The Brutes were fleshed out to fill a variety of roles, and they were no longer damage sponges that could kill you in one hit (except Hammer Chieftains). They were dangerous and relentless, but they were slower and had weaker armour than Elites. They could give orders to their underlings, showing off their radically different style of leadership. These orders tested how well you can react to your enemies and how well you know your surroundings. If you were hiding behind cover, enemies could come investigate or throw grenades at where they last saw you. Brutes also have hilarious lines, and their gruff snarling voices make those lines even funnier. Basically, they posed a challenge, but it wasn't an insurmountable challenge. You have a variety of options when fighting them on Legendary, unlike Halo 2 where you needed certain weapons at all times or dumb luck to proceed. Obviously some weapons are much better for the job than others, but none were totally useless like using a Plasma Pistol against a Halo 2 Brute. You can use automatic weapons, precision weapons, power weapons, or punch their lights out if you know how to kite them.

Grunts didn't really change much from previous games. They have no headgear and their heads stand out, but now they have a chance of going kamikaze when their leaders die. They also throw grenades on command, which makes them very dangerous in numbers. They're still cannon fodder, but they have a little more firepower when their leaders are alive.

Jackals retained their role as scouts and marksmen, but they're not nearly as infamous as their Halo 2 counterparts. They got headgear which tells you when they're watching you and where to shoot to take them down. Legendary snipers still kill in one hit, but are not nearly as numerous, don't spawn halfway through a fight, and take longer to aim and shoot. They're much more agile otherwise, as they will dodge explosives with ease.

Halo 3's Covenant didn't rely on gimmicks or cheap tricks like one-hit kills to challenge the player. They tested your ability to think and react. You had to think about which enemy to take out first, how to take them out, and from where, all while adapting to changes in enemy tactics, their movements, and your surroundings.

#392867 Site Poll 74: How will the Flood return?

Posted by Maestro on 30 April 2018 - 01:52 PM

I see two ways the Flood could return:

  1. They breach the new quarantine zone on the Ark and hijack a ship. It wouldn't be capable of carrying many Flood forms, but it'd be enough to infect a world and build up their numbers.
  2. The Flood isn't from this galaxy. It's probable that they have infected alien worlds outside the Milky Way, and they could hijack their spacecraft.
