1. @HaloGeek. Halo 3 online population never peaked above 500k 2 months after release. 250k was the highest you saw on saturday evenings and 150k on weekdays. I'm not sure what figures are for unique logins in 24 hours are tho.
2. The core engine of the game is fantastic, but it truly lacks variety in matchmaking. We obviously need more maps and better playlists.
3. I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet. But the numbers in a new game are always sky high the first 3 weeks traditionally, this included Halo 2, 3 and Reach, same goes for all CoD titles and all Battlefield games and so on. People will play the game more just after release, but the all the hype in the balloon will slowly get out and a realistic permanent population number will emerge.

BxR in halo 4

Started with Halo 1 and saw the the rise of competitive, montage, jumping/trick/glitching and casual communities, so I believe I'm as qualified to give a good explanation of how the glitches impacted the game. The main glitches people used. Melee Fire: BxR and BRx.Too quick won't register a melee. Too slow would result you in getting BxR'd yourself. Double and Quad shot: RRX, RRX - YY - RRX.... Multi melee: BxB, you can continue forever with BxBxBxB. Too quick and a hit won't register. Reload Cancel: X - YY Quick weapon switch: Y - YY, YBYY, YBX - Ready to shoot/melee/reload Non full clip Melee fire: RRBX. This is by a long shot the strongest button combo, but also easily the hardest one to make useful. This is a double shot with a melee between the two bursts. It's either a slower double shot, or an extremely hard BxR with a pre burst before the BxR. Double grenade: Overheating a covenant energy weapon and then throw two grenades after. From a competitive perspective was it a god given gift to the game, One thing in common that all glitches have is that they make the time between each command shorter, thus making it faster paced and widening the skill gap, as you need to be quicker and more precise with your button timing. Some people say it's unfair, it is from one perspective because you might not know these tricks, but if you know them - why not try and master them? The Halo forum I moderate at the moment THF, will 99% of the members from the Halo 2 era agree on that the button tricks was an extra bonus to the game. It added variety no other shooter game had and it made it more interesting and explorable - You could find new things. An example of a player using pretty much all combos, this is on the highest level of Free For All skills and the players he's against are just as good. One thing you'll notice is that the close range battles are very quick. Don't take this video example as a universal example, these are HIS BEST highlights from a game. He has failed a lot while playing too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikAdHb6meaI Now, the montage community benefited a lot from these glitches as well. Why? Because you could finish of a kill in multiple ways now, the intended way of getting kills was: Sniping, 'Rifling', grenading and beating down. But now do these 4 types of kills have varieties, these movie creators have more types of content to work with and thus making their creation less monotone. Lets make a comparison with Quake and a fighting game. Quake is the most monotone shooter game you can find when it comes to what kinds of ways you can finish someone, you got 1 action with each weapon, that's it. But if you bring in a fighter game and you so, so many kinds of ways to kill your opponent, and it's obviously more spectacular to do it with a complex button combo than the 1 click hit/shot. That's what Halo 2 button tricks brought to the montage scene, more spectacular and difficult ways of finishing someone off. The glitchers, jumpers and trickers didn't get that many benefits from the normal button combos, but the double nading was extremely popular among the jumpers, because you could jump much higher now and easier. A great example of this kind of use is in Where he demonstrates great use of this glitch so he can jump much higher and further. The casuals didn't benefit much from this however. I'm not sure why, but I believe it's because of the loud negative voices about the glitches, people were jumping to conclusions before they even looked into these tricks. I'm quite sure it's specifically the "instant kill" BxR that made people think negatively of this which got the wheel spinning and carried more people onto this thought that these tricks were severly flawlessly overpowered, when actually the slightest mistake 90% of the cases make you lose the battle. For me personally did it take me about 3 weeks of gaming to make the BxR and BxR a part of my closerange battles regularily. In short, the Competitive/MLG players, Montage scene and trickers/modders/jumpers benefited from the Halo 2 button glitches while the casuals didn't get as much out of it. Hope you enjoyed my post.
6. Thought I should share it with the rest, they definitely take more things through that others have done so far.
7. Saw someone mention this in the chat and realised that this software is severly underrated and many more should use it. I've been using this from time to time since 2004 when Halo 1 was the only Halo game. Cursed Lemon a member of TheHaloForum made this guide on how to use it. The use of words is strong, because there were lots of threads made from various of people asking for help about XBC when it was the most basic things, so he's pretty pisses, but it tells you everything you'd need to know. I have brought the post here to clean up the fowl language and am breaking the link. This is a post from the Halo Forum by the "Cursed Lemon" Absolute Dog ~~~PRELIMINARY NOTE~~~ It is unlikely, but some servers you just flat out will not be able to join, and even if you manage to connect to a server, sometimes you won't be able to see the game. THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS, THERE IS NO FATHOMABLE REASON FOR IT. It's possible that the f*ckwad hosting the server doesn't have his information right, but it's also possible that it's just not going to work, no matter how hard you want it to. After reading this guide, YOU will be set up correctly, so just deal with it if you can't get onto other servers. STEP ONE Both your PC AND your Xbox need to be hooked up to your router VIA ETHERNET. NO EXCEPTIONS Using wireless connections or trying bridging with a crossover cable is NOT RELIABLE and not guaranteed to work, and no, there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO FIX IT. IT JUST. DOESN'T. WORK. STEP TWO First thing's first, install XBC. A lot of XBC know-it-alls will try to tell you that you need the latest Winpcap library installed on your computer. THIS IS ONLY FOR COMPUTERS RUNNING WINDOWS XP - VISTA AND WINDOWS 7 USERS DO NOT NEED THIS, USE THE PSDK DRIVER. So when XBC asks you to install the Winpcap library, only do so if you have XP. STEP THREE Find the model of your router. It will be labeled on your router as "Model No." or something similar. It's not the serial number or any of the other extraneous numbers on there. It will specifically say "Model No." Go here. Find your router. After skipping the advertisement, you will be shown a large list of applications. Click on "XBConnect." You will then be shown explicit instructions on how to forward the correct port to make XBC function. Normally any non-retarded person would be good to go after this, but clearly some of you a.sholes still don't get it, so here's a little education for you. The type of IP connections that computers and gaming consoles use are standardized in this particular range (that's just what the gub'ment decided on), starting with 192.168.1.100. All of the devices connected to your router will be in the range of: 192.168.1.101 192.168.1.102 192.168.1.103 etc. etc. Go to your start menu. Click "run," then type in "cmd". Type in (without the quotation marks) "ipconfig /all". This will give you a long list of crap, but what you are looking for is something having to do with "IPv4 address" and also your "default gateway". This is the IP address that has been assigned to your computer by your router. Your computer's IP isn't that important for this process, but keep it in mind. The default gateway is what your router is filtering everything through, jot it down as well. When an IP is automatically assigned to a device by your router, it is called "dynamic". Your router will constantly refresh the IPs of any connected devices as they are turned on and turned off, normally assigning a device the lowest number possible. When you manually set your IP - for example, if you ALWAYS want your computer to keep the IP number 192.168.101 - it is referred to as "static". This is what you HAVE to do in order to have your Xbox consistently running smoothly through your router. FYI, almost all routers have an option to check what devices are connected to them, so if you have your computer and your Xbox named properly, it'll tell you what their IPs are, but if it doesn't or you're too retarded to find it, do this... Go to your Xbox's network settings (if you can't find your way there, may god have mercy on your soul). Set the IP to dynamic, and then check what IP the router assigns you. It doesn't really matter what the IP of your Xbox is, so long as it is in the appropriate range and it's not being used by another device on the router. Now change the IP option to static (or manual, or whatever), and COPY DOWN THE EXACT SAME INFORMATION, EVERY SINGLE FIELD INCLUDED. IP ADDRESS, SUBNET MASK, DEFAULT GATEWAY, ALL OF IT. The DNS servers should remain automatic. Your Xbox now has a static IP. Remember that IP and go through with the port forwarding process as designated by http://www.portforward.com. The port to open is "8602", both UDP and TCP. You have to use your Xbox's IP address, NOT your computer's IP address - your computer will communicate just fine through XBC, it's your Xbox that needs to run through an open port. FORGET DMZ, FORGET ALL THAT, IT DOESN'T MATTER. STEP FOUR Get on XBC. Create an account. The last thing that you need to do is tell XBC to find your console based on its MAC address. It will be under Tools > Find > My Console In order to do this correctly, YOU NEED TO BE IN THE SYSTEM LINK LOBBY OF EITHER HALO 1 OR HALO 2. Your Xbox needs to be searching for an available LAN game, otherwise IT WON'T WORK. Click "find my console", select all available adapters, and your console should be seen if you didn't mess anything up along the way. If you messed something up, you have to clear any previously seen consoles out of the system in the general options. IF YOU'RE NOT A RETARD, YOU WILL HAVE NOW SUCCESSFULLY CONFIGURED XBC, YOUR ROUTER, AND YOUR XBOX. ANY SERVER YOU SEE ON XBC THAT HAS "FW" LISTED UNDER THE PING - THAT WAS YOU, 10 MINUTES AGO BEFORE READING THIS TUTORIAL. STEP FIVE WOULD TECHNICALLY BE "LEARNING HOW TO PLAY THE GAME" BUT I CAN'T HELP YOU WITH THAT. Twinreaper...is this you? lol DOWNLOAD.
8. Look, Halo 2 was produced in less than 9 months, the entire game. Multiplayer options, Game engine, maps, campaign and god knows how much more. Halo has already multiplayer on Halo PC, so they do have a system that works online for H1, they newely developed a netcode for reach a little less than a year ago. I'd give it 2 months with regular work, and they could have made it the perfect H:CE. I know some people don't care that much for the game engine, but oldschools Halo player like me care a lot, because we know and have the experience, to conclude that Reach does not even come close to H:CE.
9. 1. More specific coordinates. Adding another decimal would make it much easier to make advanced puzzle maps and perfectionists would be happy. 2. Environments. The current steel environment in Reach is way too sterile and boring. Add more stuff to it like, forests, urban/rural, constrction, ruins, desert, tundra etc. Variety would be appreciated. 3. Landscaping. I read in an article about H3 that this was supposed to be added to H3, but I never heard about it again. I'd love to see this added to the game, there are possibilities to recreate some classic maps completely! 4. Creating structures and building blocks yourself. This is a bit more advanced, creating it with single line dimensions should be the easiest way, but it will definitely benefit the hardcore forgers out there. Objects sticking to eachother would also be a possibility to this feature, so you can move multiple object at the same time without relocating everything again to make it perfect.
10. Was in a bunch. Halo 2 Tuesday/Sunday Composure 2010 H2F rawr Rhis boots ppl (Funny for those who know what it means.) Those were the latest.
11. I'm giving it a chance, but the thing is. Reach has not proved to me that it is as entertaining as H:CE was, and the new maps won't do much difference in my opinion. We've seen people do thousands of maps in forge, some of them being absolutely incredible, but I'd still take H:CE ahead of that, because I find the entire multiplayer more fun.
12. Rant. I was extremely excited when it was announced that H:CE would be remade, because I could play the game again online without using XBConnect. (New games always have online fucntion.) But when someone told me that multiplayer would have the Reach engine, was I just furious. I don't understand why the Reach engine was chosen ahead of something that's supposed to be historic, and probably more liked by the ones that have experience with both. It doesn't make sense. Many of my friends, including me are very disapointed about this. In my case is it because I cannot play the old Halo multiplayer. But I know many that were very excited to finally try this game, because they could try the "amazing multiplay in H1". In all honesty can I only see this satisfying the ones, who don't care about the remake are, only happy about the multiplayer maps and those who had the idea to use the Reach engine.
13. The thing that bothers me with the DMR is the bloom that's supposed to make it harder to use, so the autoaim doesn't get ridiculous. H2 is a good example. I'd be happy to have no bloom but less auto-aim, the players who are good will hit more consistently than the average, and skill actually rewards a lot more than it does now.
14. Updating the community frequently on such things will produce a group of active followers about this project, and guarantee some fans that'll stick longer. Because yon know what to expect and the community to contribute to it. By just releasing information on finished parts of the work from time to time will you do what I explained right before. With this old and same style of surprising the community by releasing everything in one piece, is going to make some of us doubt what will come, because we know that the production of the Halo games have had flaws in the past. And I'm not as convinced about the title update as I've been for other games.
