  1. I stopped forging about a year ago and I want to start building again. I used to use the Halo Reach & Halo 4 forge and I made a small group. We created a few "Competitive" maps, both in Halo 4 and Reach. I want to do this again but in Halo: MCC edition. I haven't tried to build anything in Halo: MCC yet but I want to try. If anyone wants to help build anything then just add the gamertag: mricycoolx. Please use a mic though.
  2. Sorry, I meant to say Ragnarok. Not hemorrhage haha. On Haven I don't go directly in the center ever. I know full well the other team and my team are always going to be duking it out down there. Casuals might sit down there and duke it out while more competitive players will stick to the top sides. While yes I would say your advice makes sense it does not mean that the maps don't have bad design. First of all, they don't have nearly enough maps in the first place and they have even fewer really good maps.
  3. Boltshot - OP as a starting weapon in loadouts incineration cannon - definitely OP Needler - possibly OP Assault rifle - possibly OP
  4. Yeah, it might seem like common sense to some but clearly alot of people just don't get it. I just figured it would be good to drill it in their heads.

    Bad map design

This post is meant to be constructive and in no way is meant to offend or insult 343 or anyone else. This is here to be helpful to everybody and point out things that I feel need to be pointed out. I love Halo and I feel like these threads are good and helpful when it done with no hate. So please no hate comments. Okay, let's get to it shall we. Alright, let's organize the maps. Complex - The map has that one or two central buildings that are very campy. Battles get very stagnant around this area and typically can get pretty unfair. I also noticed that on Infinity Slayer one team is closer to the building then the other team. I also have a big problem with being able to sit on the top of that central building. I think there needs to be a soft kill boundary on top of the base. The map does work for CTF better than it does for Slayer. I am not sure how I feel about the other gametypes. Solace - The map is way too open and small for a 4 v 4 map. It also has way to many starting weapons. The sword and incineration cannon next to each other in the center and the two snipers on each base. Adrift - This map I think is good for Oddball and Slayer but nothing else except maybe SWAT. This map was not really made for anything else or at least it doesn't come across that way. This why I don't understand it being on the CTF playlist. Haven - Some complained about the initial spawns not being symetrical. There was that but other than that I thought it was one of there maps or maybe the only map that was super solid for gameplay. It did have quite a bit of stagnant gameplay down at the bottom center though. However, I think that was more with the casual public. If you were to go to a more competitive scene it doesn't feel stagnant on Haven at all thankfully. Ragnarok - One side can to the pelican faster than the other team which can become a problem. It can get pretty stagnant down there and I feel like it can get pretty chaotic in that small area. I think that there is big lack of maps in general too. Well we all know this already and this is why forge maps NEED to be added into matchmaking. The forge test playlist idea is brilliant. I think I may copy and paste this to the Halo Waypoint forums if needed but I might not.
  6. A large amount of people keep saying "Halo is turned into CoD therefore it sucks automatically because CoD sucks too." The features that we have in Halo still do not make the gameplay anything like Call of Duty's gameplay. Why the games are so different even when they have similar features. What people don't realize is that the things in CoD are not features that only CoD and Halo have done before. These things like killstreaks, pointstreaks, sprint, kill cams, loadouts, etc are things that FPS's have doing for a long time. Don't just look at CoD and Halo. Look at Battlefield, they use some of these things and yet you people seem to think that only CoD does it? No of course noy, this is game design that continues to try to stay modern over time. Are these things bad in game design? Not unless they are used poorly. Having a few features that are similar to some of CoD's features does not make a game a Call of Duty game. If you honestly think that then you need to rethink FPS games as a whole. Does that mean these games don't have problems? No of course not, all of these games will have their problems including Halo. However, what I am noticing is some of the Halo community is pointing out things that they seem to think are problems with Halo without really truly pointing out the real problems with Halo.
  7. I was talking to my friends in an Xbox live party the other day and my friend decided to start making maps in a more casual way. What I mean is he said that he wanted to make the maps to gear towards casual players. However, this is against his map making philosophy. The only reason he wants to do this (and it is going to be temporary) is because he/us wants to get our name out there on the street. We have been forging nonstop on Halo 4 and we do want to get our maps popular. Once we got a person to test our maps he pointed out some things about our map that he tested. Many of these things were things that one of my forging partners disagrees with as he thinks these things are not nearly as competitive he says. So we got to thinking about this and the idea of making more casually competitive maps until we got a little bit more popular. But then I got to thinking about this as well. So what exactly is the difference between a very competitive map vs a casual competitive map? I don't know what you might consider different between the two as I have thought about this quite a bit and I still can't figure it out. Any thoughts on differences between the two types of map styles?
  8. Me and my buddy are trying to make a forge team of maybe 15 forgers. We make competitive maps ONLY and we make MLG, CTF, BTB, Slayer, and etc. If you are interested in this then go ahead and take a look down below. Also we are looking for people to help us with gametype settings. We may have 1 or two people do mini games as a way to get people try out our competitive maps. However, we do not make mini games or infection maps. Requirements - Your age has to be 17 or older You must be able to make good quality conversation while forging Has to have at least one finished map to show for. (IWe will see if you know the basics and have a similar style.) You have to know how to use the edit coordinates system. Also you have to have a good mic. My gamertag is icycoolx. Contact me either here or preferably on Xbox live.
  9. I noticed whenever I make maps sometimes they turn out too small and sometimes too big. So do how do you know when a map is too big or small AS YOU'RE BUILDING IT? I want to know because I am trying to make arena maps for Team Slayer, CTF, MLG, BTB, etc. So are there any tips to making sure it's not too big or small? (By the way I posted on Forgehub also and then I copied and pasted this on here)
  10. Okay, I made a thread about this already and I will say it again. The reason forge world is not in Halo 4 and probably won't be for a long time if ever is because it takes alot of resources. Bungie even said that they were pushing their boundaries with the forge world in Halo Reach and they just barely were able to put into the final game. So is Bungie could barely do that then don't expect 343i to do it too as I don't expect them too and I don't think they will. If they could add that, they may consider it, but I don't think they can.
  11. Uh I am not asking for people to give me an entire map idea. Go make a thread for this if you want or just make it yourself. Although the idea from I read sounds pretty damn cool.
  12. I am making this thread as a message both to the Halo community and 343 (although they probably won't read this). I am noticing that many people simply ignore all the problems with Halo 4's forge and just complain that there is no forge world and that they want it back. Alright I will start with my first point 1. Forge world was just barely able to fit in Reach according to Bungie's forge world creators. In two videos they say that they were really pushing their boundaries. Although in the end it worked and it worked well, it did mean that if they try to do it again might be impossible by another company like 343. They even said that this was too much for the production and that again they were really pushing their luck. It's amazing to me that they actually implemented it in the end. That was Bungie though and if Bungie was just barely able to put forge world in Reach; then I do not expect 343 to do the same with the latest Halo games. It may seem unfortunate as we can all agree, that yes it would be nice to have it. However, knowing that information I think we should be asking for more reasonable stuff. A few better improved forge maps would be nice but then again I am not sure how much more they can add to the game. If not in Halo 4, maybe Halo 5 or in Halo 5 they could just make better maps in the first place. The maps they made in Halo 4 were not bad but they were not that great either. 2. If you are going to say anything about forge then one of the things that should be mentioned is the current flaws and not just what we want that is not already there. I have seen only two things about forge in Halo 4 threads. A. NEW forge suggestions B. The request for Forge world I will go ahead and give a list of the problems of the forge in Halo 4 C. The magnets they added do not align very well. They usually get misaligned if you exit the map and come back. They will often make pieces slightly crooked and it can cause quite a bit of time consuming frustration. That might be able to be fixed with locking the pieces but I haven't tried that yet. Oh and yes you could argue that "well just use the coordinates like in Reach and don't worry about the magnets". Yes I could do that but it is a feature in the game that should be working anyways. They may fix it but I don't know that and I certainly hope they do. I must say that I only use the magnets for the initial layout and foundation but not the entire map. D. They changed the skins for the platforms and now many of them are now uneven because of their changes. Sometimes you will notice certain pieces don't align well with other pieces. I feel like they could have done with very few changes to Bungie's forge creation and just added some new maps and a few new things. They didn't add much but they did change quite a bit. I think that is it for now but if I want to add more I will come back and edit the post. Halo Reach forge world talks: There was another video where they revealed the forge world in Reach at E3 but I can't find it. So if you can link it that would be great. Also if this thread could be pinned that would be nice. Although I am guessing this thread does not call for a pin right?
  13. I personally think that there should be two seperate sections of playlists. One for casual gamers and one for those who take Halo a little more seriously (Which by the way, I am pretty sure they are adding a ranking system like the one in Halo 3) Uh this is a thread where we discuss things out? He was not insulting you or the other posters. He was simply debating points made by posters. So all you did was just ignore everything he just said and then told him to shut up. Many people have complained about the franchise and I can see why. The game's problems and the community are all causing problems. Now to be honest the guy that made this thread did a terrible job at making his point. He should have made this a constructive thread and pointed out the actual problems with the game and 343. Instead he made himself look like just another angry fan. I am also very much against insulting the game and 343 as that is just pointless. The problems as of now of the game in short: (I have go to sleep and if I want to go in depth I will come back and do it) -Boltshot is overpowered -active camo is overpowered -343 changed the forge pieces too much and now they are uneven(like the 4x4 platforms and the colliseum wall) -the magnets system in forge does not align very well and things get crooked after awhile -They need to add more community made maps -The file hare is broken/not added yet -The DMR feels a little too powerful -The ranking system is not here but I think it will be added eventually anyways -The assault rifle is too overpowered. -Not enough maps and only a few are actually good maps That is it for now and if I want to post more than I will.
  14. Does anyone want to start doing plenty of custom games for competitve maps that we can spread around? When I mean competitive I mean Team Slayer, MLG, BTB, CTF, FFA, etc. I don't mean infection or mini games as I don't really like to play those that much. My gamertag is icycoolx
