To me it looks like it could be some sort of energy powered weapon as there is a split in the barrel that could allow some sort of energy shot to travel out from it. People have been saying its a grenade launcher (imo i couldnt see how it could be from the look of it) David Ellis says its not a grenade launcher and he leaves it at that. 8 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This is speculation but maybe this could be where the ammunition is inserted? Due to the long and open nature of the barrel, perhaps it would be some sort of laser or sniping weapon? There is also smoke trailing from the very edge of the bottom, so maybe this could be here the projectiles are released. The Director Posted April 19, 2012 Report Share Posted April 19, 2012 When I first saw this I thought to myself "Assault Rifle". The reason I thought this is because the indentation at the top looks like it may be an ammo counter. It's definitely NOT the AR that we saw in the footage though, so could this be an upgrade? Another theory I have (based on the barrel) is that it could be an upgraded form of the spartan laser that fires a blue laser instead of a red one, or perhaps a shoulder fired MAC launcher. I was thinking the same thing but it says UNSC on it so I scrapped the thought. It definitely resembles a grenade launcher with the barrel shape and all but seeing as they said it's not I would imagine it's like what Director said: some sort of new laser maybe. RedStarRocket91 Posted April 19, 2012 Report Share Posted April 19, 2012 They've said the UNSC has incorporated new Covenant technology into its arsenal. To me this looks a lot like a human version of the Plasma Rile or the Plasma repeater, it has the open centre and there's what looks like an energy link at the end of the barrel, both of which are key features of Covenant weaponry. I'm guessing it's going to be some sort of long-range plasma counterpart to the DMR. Perhaps it strips shields a lot quicker but can't score headshots? EDIT: Maybe it's a railgun? I haven't seen one of those in a game since Red Faction II and if it could fire through walls it would certainly synergise well with Forerunner Vision. 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Actually you HAVE seen a railgun In Halo Reach, in fact. It's the Gauss cannon lol It fires through forge objects. Also, a Gauss cannon is basically a mini-MAC.
