The arguement for not using the original H:CE engine in multiplayer?

Rant.

I was extremely excited when it was announced that H:CE would be remade, because I could play the game again online without using XBConnect. (New games always have online fucntion.)

But when someone told me that multiplayer would have the Reach engine, was I just furious. I don't understand why the Reach engine was chosen ahead of something that's supposed to be historic, and probably more liked by the ones that have experience with both. It doesn't make sense.

Many of my friends, including me are very disapointed about this. In my case is it because I cannot play the old Halo multiplayer. But I know many that were very excited to finally try this game, because they could try the "amazing multiplay in H1".

In all honesty can I only see this satisfying the ones, who don't care about the remake are, only happy about the multiplayer maps and those who had the idea to use the Reach engine.

more than likely it was timescales, they do have a little thing called Halo 4 as well you know.

Think the remake will be good, plus with the original maps remade it will be very good. give it a chance

I'm giving it a chance, but the thing is. Reach has not proved to me that it is as entertaining as H:CE was, and the new maps won't do much difference in my opinion. We've seen people do thousands of maps in forge, some of them being absolutely incredible, but I'd still take H:CE ahead of that, because I find the entire multiplayer more fun.

Ok, first of all, there was no H:CE xbox live MP. System link was all it had. Second, the reason Reach was used is due to the fact that it would take alot of work to develop yet another MP system for xboxlive, there wasnt one on the original game. The Reach MP system is already in place and adding a playlist for classic maps is the most cost effective way to go, you are getting the game for $39...well under other titles. H:CEA is giving us exactly what 343i said it would from the start, classic MP maps and CE for the 360.

Well, you are considering they are just building maps in Forge and calling them classic maps....They could very easily have designed complete maps from the ground up using the original maps as templates, they do have access to way more things then forge.

I hope they are just over laying new graphics on the originals or recreating exact copies.

Look, Halo 2 was produced in less than 9 months, the entire game. Multiplayer options, Game engine, maps, campaign and god knows how much more.

Halo has already multiplayer on Halo PC, so they do have a system that works online for H1, they newely developed a netcode for reach a little less than a year ago.

I'd give it 2 months with regular work, and they could have made it the perfect H:CE.

I know some people don't care that much for the game engine, but oldschools Halo player like me care a lot, because we know and have the experience, to conclude that Reach does not even come close to H:CE.

thing is if they had built a multiplayer platform for Halo CEA it would of effectively killed off Reach, after what? 14 months, not good business sense.

bringing out the anniversary game makes all Halo fans buzz, recreating the original maps again makes a lot of people excited, making them work with Reachs multiplayer platform? perfect business sense. will probably get more people playing reach.

I agree Brooney. Anniversary is a tribute to CE fans, so why not have the classic multiplayer system? If some people don't like it, they can still play Reach. On an unrelated note, why don't the Marines in the trailer have their pants bloused? It bothered me in Reach too. Just sayin'.

Agreed man, CE campaign was awesome and the CE multiplayer was the best multiplayer ever. When I first heard about CEA I couldn't believe they weren't doing the MP too. If this is a tribute to CE you have to have the MP. Ive always said that all they had to do was go back and make XBL for H:CE and that would be the sickest halo ever. CE is the best because of its MP.

Probably something like the Classic Playlist where there are no armor abilities and the weapons available are suitable for the time set - In forge and customs the maps will IMO probably have all of the weapons and armor abilities every other map has.

They've mentioned that they'll be implementing the 7 :P ...6 Maps into all of the matchmaking playlists eventually.

Ok, I am unsure where half of you get your information, (cough BROONEY cough) but you may want to go back and look thru some VidOC specials and published developer documents. Frankie himself stated after the initial trailer for CE, that the game was using the Reach engine because of issues with Halo 1's netcode, and that using a seperate multiplayer experience would only divide the player base. It is a wide known and troublesome fact, that H1 suffered from the most horrible written net handling code ever spewed forth. To go back and re-write the netcode, would also mean having to go back and re-write sections of the core engine. Not very investment friendly.

Now about the Reach graphic layer. Calling it a top graphic layer is not really accurate. This is because the Reach engine is actually the core layer. Reach uses what is called the Megalo Engine to handle scripting. Scripting controls probably about 75% of everything we can do in Reach. In order for the Reach graphics to be able to be used with CE, it is obvious that the Reach Engine is using Megalo in the backround to use scripts, which in fact call for the CE engine to used. I know it sounds complex, and it is. But in order to use the graphics of Reach on CE, it is the only way one would go about being able to do it without having to re-write the original engine.

As for Halo 2, it did not take 9 months to complete. September 2002 was when the first Halo 2 trailer was shown. Production for that trailer took alone 3 months to complete. Actual production time for Halo 2 took place from June 2002 to October 2004. Production time for game discs is very minimal and takes only mere weeks. Bungie just barely made it in time to release it, but had to scrap the whole ending and many other multiplayer and campaign options.

As for John's take on the 75% of players not knowing who makes a game or even helps with halo....that number is actually pretty accurate. I will guarantee you that if you go into Reach now and start asking people which two companies produced Halo Reach, 75% of them will tell you Bungie alone did it....which we all know is false, as 343 worked hand in hand with them on it. The main fact is, most new gamers care nothing about who actually produces a game or who slaves over it for ever in the process.
