Lack of Players on Halo 3

Hi all,

This is not a rant, but I am just making a point about Halo 3. I noticed on the hundreds of forums and thousands of forum posts that I have been on, that on the general whole, most of the Halo players prefer Halo 3 matchmaking. However whenever I come on Halo 3, I have noticed only a few thousand are on the Halo 3matchmaking while there is atleast 50,000 - 60,000 on Halo Reach matchmaking at any time. Just seems weird, like I said, its not a rant but its a point that while most people are moaning and saying that Halo 3's matchmaking is better, there are hardly any players on the Halo 3 matchmaking.

Its a shame as I myself do prefer the Halo 3 matchmaking, but we will not have it for long. Once Halo 4 is released I am sure the Halo 3 server will shut down so we might as well take advantage of the time that we have left on Halo 3 matchmaking as it will be gone...................

I knew that, I am making the point that people said the Reach Matchmaking was not as good as 3's but don't play Halo 3. I love Reach and 3 but the Reach multiplayer lacked something which I can't quite point out, 3's just felt more original to me but not gonna complain, both multiplayers are better than Call of Duty's. :) I was just making a point that people says 3's is better but don't follow through and play it, and instead play on Reach.

Stupid people decided to jump on MW3, that's why. Hardly anyone has the braincells to understand the difference between an amazing game and a game that's the definition of S*** (Which in this case is Call of Duty MW3). I play Halo 3, but I don't have fun playing the game by myself anymore. If I'm with friends it's awesome, but other than that I put the disc in and 10 minutes later, I'm on a different game. Well of course what I said at the start can easily be argued against, there are loads of amazing games coming out this year and of course Mass Effect 3 being one of them. I'm just trying to point out that Call of Duty is poison and it's destroying the multiplayer of older games, or game companies that are adding multiplayer for the first time i whatever game and I feel it's killing the opportunities for people. That's my opinion on the matter anyway, blurp.

Please be aware that this post is not directed towards a single individual. It is meant only to express my thoughts on the hate that I see directed towards "Call of Duty", as well as those who play it and similar titles. Please do not take any of this personally.

See, this is the kind of attitude that I absolutely hate.

Just because someone perhaps gets bored of a game after playing it for a certain length of time (like Halo 3) or decides that they want to play something else, or they just have more fun playing something else (like Call of Duty) does not make them stupid. Not in the slightest. Everyone has a different opinion. Everyone enjoys different types of games, including FPSs. Just because someone happens to enjoy something like Call of Duty more so than they do Halo, Battlefield, or Crysis does not mean they're any less intelligent than someone who prefers those to Call of Duty. Call of Duty is not "poison". It's an FPS, a game, like any other game. You may not like it, and that's perfectly fine, but you can not just sit here and tell me or anyone else that that those who prefer it or play it more are stupid.

It's not destroying the multiplayer of any games whatsoever. People will move to games that they enjoy more. They will play what they enjoy more. They will focus their attention on what they enjoy more so than what they enjoy less. If it happens to be Call of Duty, there's nothing wrong with that. Just like there's nothing wrong with anyone liking Halo, Battlefield, or Crysis over Call of Duty. It's not killing ANY opportunities for people. The people themselves decide what they want to play. The people themselves decide whether or not they want to stick to just one video game series. The people themselves are responsible for the increase or decrease in popularity of one game series over another. The game is not necessarily at fault.

Call of Duty gets a lot of hate. Most of this hate comes from a few things. Here are some of the reasons I can think up.

  • The lack of meaningful change between each entry
  • The increase in popularity of the series since Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  • The potential unbalance that the game presents because of a possible lack of thought or polish put into certain aspects of the game

I happen to enjoy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Does this make me less intelligent than anyone else? No. Does this mean I'm less of a gamer, or don't know the difference between a good game and a bad game? No, because that is purely opinion, and you cannot say that "Game A" is a fantastic game, while "Game B" is an utter pile of garbage, and anyone who plays it is a fool. People have different tastes and different opinions on nearly everything in the world. Games are no exception. The smart thing to do is accept this, and not judge someone based upon what video games they enjoy playing.

Sorry, this is a bit long but this should give you an idea on what I'm really trying to say.

I should have re-worded some of what I had posted. I shouldn't have said everyone who plays MW3 is stupid, as it's not true so that's my bad. But, what I stated isn't exactly false either. Aside from me calling everyone stupid, I'm not going to go back on what I said about the game. I believe MW3 is poison, and here I'm going to explain why. But first I'd like to address what you said here, "It's not destroying the multiplayer games whatsoever", sure everyone has their opinion and I'm not going to state what I say is correct but it does make sence. Take games like Ghost Recon advanced warfare, Bioshock 2, Halo 3, Gears of War 3, Fear 3, Rainbow six vegas 2, the multiplayer in these games are brilliant and fun (I guess that's my personal opinion since I've played them all). Now, when I say MW3 is a poison, I'm trying to say it's simply taking people away from games that are in general better and should be more deserving. Infinity Ward, like EA are doing it for the money and not for the community aswell, (As do all but other companies actually take pride in their games and especially the companies that listen to their community) but looking at the game, it's boring. A lot of the game is recycled, most of the maps are terrible, the weapons sound the same, the story isn't that exciting and rather it's mostly full of dull colours and a mass amount of explosions.

For those who bought/Pre-ordered MW3 may have thought that the game would contain a lot of changes compared to MW2 (Other than those who just play games, regardless of how good or bad it is), which really there isn't. When you said, "The lack of meaningful change between each entry, The increase in popularity of the series since Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, The potential unbalance that the game presents because of a possible lack of thought or polish put into certain aspects of the game" I couldn't agree more with that but I'm just trying to say that companies like Infinity Ward will not listen to their community and would rather just ship out another copy of the same game with little change and add a different number on the cover. I'm was looking at MW3 at a logical point of view, I understand that activision are quite demanding but looking at Treyarch, you can see that their really trying with their games, by that I mean their graphics engine is a lot better than Inifinity wards. Yes, people have different tastes but as I said I'm looking at it from, let's say a buyers point of view or even a more professional point of view. My first post was a bit bland and didn't explain much but that's how I think of a company that doesn't care about it's fanbase and doesn't have that spark to make change to give people what they really want from Modern Warfare.

I could go on all day but this isn't a CoD thread so I'm going to drop this and just never mention CoD on this website again. Unless it's actually about the game. Again, what I said can be argued against but hopefully this make sence to you.

I semi-agree with both Mystic and ShockGazm, Mystic is right in the point of you should play whatever games you want to play, while i agree with ShockGazm in the point of CoD and Battlefield distracting gamers from titles that that certain player would like more, if i never stopped playing CoD, i would'nt have discovered amazing games like Okami, the MOTHER series, Mushihime-Sama Futari, SSX or other underrated titles. It is a shame that there's only 335 gamers on Halo 3 matchmaking right now as i now have no chance of reliving my great memories on matchmaking and i suppose i'll also never get my 50... ohh well, games get forgotten i suppose :sorry:

Just a question, isnt halo bigger than CoD on the xbox, because i thought CoD was bigger on the Playstation

Or am i completely wrong?

No, CoD is bigger on both consoles. It is mainly due to it's fanbase which will continue to buy games year after year. *Pulls Collar*

In my opinion, cod is a utter pile of garbage, and halo is a fantastic game. and in my opinion, anyone who plays cod is a idiot. I respect that other people may disagree, and not everyone who plays it is, but from personal experiences, that's the conclusion i come to.

I find that to be quite a silly thing to say. Playing a video game series and/or enjoying it does not decide one's intelligence. Your opinion that anyone who plays Call of Duty is an idiot is a terrible one in my eyes. You can dislike it all you want and there's nothing wrong with that. Regardless of whoever you've played against, you still have no right to accuse anyone who enjoys it of being an idiot. Perhaps those that you played with are idiots. Perhaps they are immature. However you don't know everyone who plays it. You cannot speak about the entire playerbase when you don't personally know them.

You don't know their level of intelligence, and you don't know what kind of education they've obtained.

i think halo reach is pretty good. (maybe not campaign and some of the maps) and the forge is AMAZING (and you can make it like halo 3 forge, with the normal setting. me and my friends did a map like that)

I personally think Halo 3 is great and wish more people played it.

Halo reach was a fail of a game and stole many great players

It obviously wasn't that big of a fail if it "stole" so many players. Why would they play a game that they think is terrible? They wouldn't. Or at least they shouldn't, because it makes absolutely no sense to do so. If people prefer Halo 3 to Halo: Reach, the smart thing to do would be to play Halo 3 instead. Some people have just moved on from Halo. It's been pretty much the exact same arcadie gameplay ever since Halo 2, and people just aren't as into it as they used to be. Bigger and better games have been released, and people have decided to play those, rather than a game that they've possibly played to death.

As for pandabare's question, Halo 3's matchmaking is still the exact same to my knowledge.

I agree with you, I don't understand why so many people hate Reach. Personally I was getting bored with Halo 3, I've been playing it for so long now I just don't feel that spark like I used to back then. I loved Halo Reach, I love Multiplayer (Regardless of some personal flaws), I love the soundtracks and I love all Halo. I mean I used to be quite competitive on Halo but I decided to leave that aside and play other games. Yes, games arn't always 100% but what's more important is the fact Bungie and 343 have put everything into making these mind-blowing games including heart but it seems that's not enough to satisfy a majority of people these days, it's quite sickening and pathetic.

I LOVE REACH! and people should stop complaining, it's Unnecessary.

Absolutely agree with you here. The amount of people who complain about reach is mind boggling. it's a great game.

I am not saying I hate Halo Reach. I have loved every game in the Halo Franchise I was just making a stupid point about how people complain and end up going against it.

I didn't read the whole post so I hope I'm not copying what someone else said but, anyway.

I think the lack of players in Halo 3 is do to the fact that they've changed games and haven't looked back. Probably CoD. Why not? CoD is consistant, they stick to their bread and butter. It's hugely popular and they can trust CoD not to revamp and destroy the game.

Halo 3 went to Reach where a lot of people probably felt a slap in the face. The game that they love had changed so much it was barely considered to be Halo. Regardless of what it says on the box.

IMO IMO IMO

I have read all of your guys comments and im still having a hard time understanding why people back up these terrible games but i think i have a clue you guys are all bad at skill based game. Let me start of by sayin call of duty is boring and recycled because its a game where as if i see you first and i dont miss my shots you are dead. Which in turn promotes things like camping . Halo at a competitive level didnt have this problem because its a game of me hitting my shots better than you rather than me seeing you first. REACH imo killed the competitve vibe i had when playing H3 when bloom was out i could hit my shots perfectly and not get the kill and yes i understand this was because i didnt time my shot or crouch(Who even couches) but you need to understand that they made the game like that so the gameplay would be slower for less skilled people. so in the time it would take me to out br a kid in H3 in reach i would still be tryin to get that last shot on him in turn giving his teammate the opportunity to help clean me up promoting more team work and more standoff battes rather than fast-paced duels between one persons br vs anothers and thats why i dont like reach
