What is your favourite iteration of the Energy Sword, and why? (Including CE, even though we can't use it.)

Recommended Posts

One of the most iconic weapons in the Halo Universe, possibly even gaming in general, is the Energy Sword. This wonderful weapon has been a fan favourite since it first appeared in Halo 2, and it has since become a staple of all Halo games since.

Which iteration is your favourite? Why is it so?

My favourite will always be Halo 2s energy sword. The colour combination, and the shape is just so perfect, and not square. It looks like it could cut through anything with the rounded blades which continues past the hilt several inches. A true piece of art and creativity. No other iteration surpasses it in my opinion.

For me it's going to be a tie between the H2A & Reach versions due to favoritism towards design rather than function, though they're both really solid gameplay-wise.

However, contradicting my last statement, I hold H2's a tad higher because of its OP-ness: moreso its graphical overhaul in H2A. Plus, the H2A Red Infected Sword is the most metal thing I've ever seen.  :yes

I'm torn between Halo 2 / 2A, and Halo: Reach. I really like H2's Energy Sword, 1. Infinite Ammo / ridiculous lunge range, and 2. It's just got a really nostalgic feel to it. I have many memories of cutting down my friends with it on Lockout lol. H2A's Infected Energy Sword is the most incredible thing I've ever laid eyes on, since my favorite color is Red.

As far as aesthetic, Halo: Reach is my favorite. It's really sleek, and has the right curves in the right places (not a square piece of junk like H4 or H5. Although I must admit I like the Prophet's Bane Energy Sword from H5. It feels a lot like the H2 Energy Sword (besides the Active Camo it grants).

However, my all-time favorite has got to be the H2A Energy Sword, but the Campaign version. It's got the Halo: Reach design (a higher quality version too), but it still functions exactly like the H2 Energy Sword. Not to mention the sound effects when swinging it are incredible, and much better than the dull blunt swinging noise from the original.

I mean just look at it:

For me it's the Halo 5 energy sword. The main reason I'm picking it is because of functionality.

In the other Halo games the sword was just, well, bad. It didn't boost your speed and it had terrible lunge (and wasn't always one shot) range.

I always felt that the sword was nothing to be feared (especially Halo 3 and Reach) up until now.

The Energy Sword is one of the most iconic weapons in the Halo series. While it has undergone some changes over the years, it remains a powerful and deadly weapon. My favorite iteration of the Energy Sword is the one from Halo 3: ODST. I love the design of the sword and the way it glows when charged. It's also a great sword in multiplayer, as it can quickly take down opponents. The sword is also special in my heart because it was the first Halo weapon I ever used. I remember using it on Legendary mode and feeling like a total badass. Halo 3: ODST will always be one of my favorite games, and the Energy Sword is a big part of that.

The Energy Sword from Halo CE is also a close second for me. I love the old-school design of the sword listed at Sword Encyclopedia and how it seems like a more primitive version of the later swords. It's also really satisfying to hear the sword's sound effects when you swing it or hit someone.
