Xbox One May system update

Our monthly fix of new and improved Xbox One features is now available for download.

This months update adds the highly requested voice message option we've been missing since we upgraded from the Xbox 360.

Once you've downloaded the update you can send and recieve voice messages from both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Recording and sending a voice message is done through the snapped messages app.

Another popular request was to be able to power up your console through the Xbox One Smartglass app. The Smartgalss app has been updated for all platforms (Windows, Windows phone, Android and iOS) and will now let you turn your Xbox One on and off if they're on the same network. Your Xbox One will need to be on Instant-On power mode for this to work.

Next up is user selectable power modes. This update adds the option to either set your Xbox One to Instant-On power mode, which let's you use the voice command "Xbox On" to power up and download updates on the background, or Energy-Saving mode ,which shuts down your console completely in order to save power. This initial set-up feature was, untill now, only available in Europe but will now be available worldwide.

Lastly we have dedicated servers for party chat. Back in March dedicated servers were set up for party chat and were made available for preview program members for testing. Now it's being expanded to everyone owning an Xbox One. These dedicated servers should resolve the problems of some people with different NAT settings not being able to use or join the party chat system. The dedicated servers will be made available to everyone over the course of a few weeks to ensure things go smoothly.

What are your thoughts on these new features and fixes?

Let us know down below!

Thank you for reading! :D

Dedicated servers for Party Chat... I wonder how that will go. Also, it baffles me that voice messaging wasn't originally apart of Xbox one always. Glad it's here now.

Gud news nut.

Same here.

Though I can't say I missed it since I never used it...

Well the voice chat will probably be much easier to use seeing that you could just snap the messaging system rather than having to go through the long 360 message system.

I'll probably use this a lot because of the amount of messages I send communicating with GSD XD.

Great article Peanut.

Love it, but I still want to see a notification bar for messages. It's kind of difficult to know that you have a message when you are playing a new game and unlocking achievements left and right.

C'mon M$, you're making people think that I'm ignoring them. :(

And it is completely besides the point that I am actually ignoring them...

@@rrhuntington said everything I was thinking. I mean I knew voice messaging wasn't there but it was just confusing as to why not. I always assumed it was because you could send messages like 20 times faster using SmartGlass on your phone.

Not everyone has a fancy schmancy phone that can run Smartglass.

Well the snapping feature of the Xbox One isn't exactly the fastest either...

Throw in the occasional error in here and there and it even takes longer!

Notice me Senpai!

I've sent you over 100 messages last week and no answer whatsoever!

It's fine... I'll wait for my Senpai...

Wait... Complete off was region specific?

Them energy bills though.

Didn't know that either. Was kinda confused by that too.

Still , I've been able to do it since I got it. An extra 45 seconds of load really doesn't bother me so I just do it.

But I also turn the wall plugs off when not in use so I'm a bit of a wierdo.

That's why people, like me, are part of the Preview Program. For me, I actually thought we got this update for 3 months already. Lol.

Good news Peanut. However, I think it would be beneficial if you had this posted during the beta stages. Instead of waiting.

Most excited for the updated party chat… Hopefully this will fix problems I've been having!!!

I haven't really used the voice feature since the 360, so I wasn't even aware it was absent… However, glad to know that when I go to use it, it will now be an option.

Good news, P34nut!

I'm part of the preview program too and I don't think we've had it for 3 months :hrhr: more like just 1.

Posting this kind of stuff during the beta stages is kinda risky as I might mention something that won't be present in the full release. Better to wait for the official update to be sure I won't post something wrong.

Besides that, the update notes we get in the Preview Dashboard app aren't that detailed.

Are you sure? Because the update made it so you could send voice messages and still hear the party chat. Lol, that was part of the update.

I know you're part of the Preview Dashboard, lol. Why else would I say that? Besides that, I see where you're coming from. However, you could always just do 2 articles. Just in case. One saying what's being beta tested and, and one being the actual released notes of what's been changed.

Copy & Paste Ooh La La
