A question for everyone:

What was your initial reaction the VERY first time you time you saw the flood?

I believe this is a great topic to discuss and share nightmares (or acts of bravery.)

Please, share as much detail as you wish. :) You can discuss the building up to the flood, or how they affected you in later games, but please share your opinions.

My first time:

I may have been young, but I was still attentive. I was so confused as to what the Covenant dug up. I was scared that, well, the COVENANT were scared. Walking into that facility, seeing figures running in the distances, shots from nowhere, gross noises, it kinda stuck with me.

Fighting out of the facility was the scary part. I had no idea what these ugly-looking beasts were and so I tried spraying and praying my way out. I repeatedly got lost and stressed.

Oh lord, it stuck with me. >.<

"Popcorn?"

Nah, the level set them up nicely and the rotting of the corpses was surprising to say the least. Didn't see it coming with the way the game had been going up until that point. I never compared the Flood to Zombies really, even thought their similarities are high.

Here was my stream of thoughts.

"What's going on?"

"This music. It's a bad sign."

"Something really bad is behind this door."

"Whoa whoa whoa HOW ARE THERE SO MANY OF THESE?!"

"WHAT IS THAT?!"

"DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!"

First time I ever faced the Flood.

I thought I was fighting humanoid potatoes (thats what happens when you're 6 years old) but when I came across the Proto-Gravemind for the first time oh man scared the bijebuzz outta me and I didn't play a Halo campaign for the next 5 years until I got a 360 and played ODST oh man that was nice.

Kinda puts a sick twisted spin on Potato Night.

I was around the age of 7 when I first faced them and though they were plants at first because I couldn't understand English back then and had no idea what they really were.

Then as I grew older realisations started to kick in... Suddenly eveything started to make sense and it horrified me  :hope:

Well my reaction was different on the outside compared to what was going on in my head. If you were watching me, I would look un-phased but if you knew what was inside me... It would be something along the lines of...

Holy mother of god! What the hell is that thing! Give me a napalm nuke! Burn it with a fire nuke then shoot at it and the corpse until I can see underneath the map!

I think I might've cried a little. There were so many, and they were everywhere. So after the initial panic, I'm sure I was whimpering/growling at the screen, begging the question, "Why won't you die?"

But that was a long time ago.. I remember my dad would always yell at me for leaving the disc in the tray when I was done with the computer. He wouldn't even let me play multiplayer XD

In Halo CE they were a fantastic twist which was completely unexpected at the time. They were great. Then Halo 2 came along and I couldn't stand them. Not because they were difficult (they weren't) but they bored me. They didn't add anything to the game for me and in my eyes didn't belong in the rest of the series. Could have done just as well if not better with out them. Halo 3 was the same.

But then again I am at odds with most everybody when it comes to the Flood.
