MCC Hype #WeBack (First Post)

Recommended Posts

I want to start off by saying that I have played countless hours of Halo. I have loved every Halo. I am not scared of change. I also want to say I am thrilled about the MCC. I remember being 11 when Halo: CE was announced as a launch day title for the "Xbox". I mowed yards until my hands bled so I could buy it. My dad said don't because he was going to buy it for me for Christmas. I didn't sleep that night because I was so excited. I felt that same excitement for every Halo release. If anyone remembers how dramatic and touching the 5 "Believe" videos that were released for Halo 3 and felt touched by them, that's how I feel about every Halo. This franchise literally changed my life.

I started to play "competitively" in Halo Reach. I was a SWAT kid that didn't know much, but I had the raw talent. I started doing gamebattles and continued with PGL until about 3 months ago. I recently moved back to Halo 3 for the difficulty factor. We as the "community" have become so small. Halo once was a global force. H3 at its peak had over 1 million, yes MILLION with an M, players online. Halo 2 was a game that was labelled as a game that shook the world. We were a force. Now we are a small group clutching to the franchise that we love. MLG Co-Founder Sundance Digiovanni stated "Halo is by no means dead, but it's on the table and needs to be resuscitated." "Quality will be the key because quality is everything." Before people say, "Pro-gaming doesn't affect us", let me stop you. When Halo was on the MLG circuit it saw it's biggest numbers. When more people are playing, the experience becomes better because you play against people who are good and it keeps you locked in.

**OPINION** "The Solution": We as a community not only rally behind the Master Chief Collection, but we need to rally behind 343i like we did behind Bungie. 343i has listened to the community and hired pro players to help them out. We must have the confidence to believe that OUR game is THE BEST. I hope to never see this franchise that I love, die. Arguing about "which game is better" "halo (insert game) sucks and killed it" "343 sucks" is hurting our fragile community. Negativity is the enemy of creativity. - Availvble

At the point where Halo: Reach was released, Halo 3 had a daily online population of approximately 1.1 million.

Halfway through it's lifespan, Halo: Reach still had 900,000 different players online in the average day.

Halo 4 started with 400,000 players online and 75% of that never came back to Halo 4 when Black Ops 2 released.

For a long, long time, I hadn't seen the community of Halo truly be as energized and pumped as it was when the Master Chief Collection was announced. When the twitch chat for the Gamescom finals ended erupted into #WeBack......

I had a little hope.

To hate pro-gaming is like playing Basketball and hating the NBA. You can hate the players, but you really don't have a reason to hate the scene where the game creators and the most hardcore players work together to attempt to make the game the best it can be.

At least 7,000,000 users on a console with very little real exclusive (dominant) games? Perfect time for a comeback if you ask me. Even if some people have never played Halo I believe many more will give it a shot now.

This game doesn't make consoles, but it has proven that it play's a HUGE role in selling it.

However, I don't have any delusions of grandeur (yes, that is a reference) about Halo going back to the old days where it was the king. Is it something I wish for? Very much so. But times have changed, and I have my doubts. Always hopeful however.

I think the first thing we all need to truly accept is that, really, both in terms of numbers and competition, Halo won't ever be the same again, it just won't. Back in the Halo 3 days, there was really only CoD and Starcraft 1/2, CS Franchise (Based on opinion, i'm not really sure what other games there were that were as big) which could really compete. But, while Halo didn't exactly do it's self any favours with Halo Reach (My favourite Halo personally) and Halo 4, that still doesn't mean it was all Halo's fault.

Other games like League and DotA, CS:GO, CoD (Cod has grown so much from CoD 4, Bash it all you want, it's true, it's essentially the Halo of the Original Xbox, the only real competitive shooter on console nowadays, Maybe Destiny will change that) and similar/future games have all taken over Halo, and that's because people just enjoy other games, and since Halo changed and people didn't like the change, they don't see the point of coming back.

Will Halo ever be as big as it used to be? No.
WIll Halo ever be as big competitively as it used to be? Probably not.
Will Halo be revived with MCC/Halo 5? If done right with H5, quite possibly, but not to the extent of Halo 3.

I'm not someone who believes people just buy Xbox for Halo, that's kind of silly now.

I don't see exactly MLG being the reason why Halo was at its peak, for the most part, its because there wasn't really any other huge FPS on console, Didn't like CoD? Pfft go to Halo then. While MLG did have an effect, it wasn't as big as possibly thought. And that was really shown by playlist numbers. (IE: Compare Social Slayer to MLG, even during an MLG event, even during an MLG championship really)

Halo does have every chance of coming back, don't get me wrong, just don't expect the types of numbers that Halo 3 had.

I'm holding out hope for Halo, i really am, how much hope is questionable though, and I see Halo 5 as really make or break, for casual and competitive play for Halo, despite what MCC will produce, we need new content, not old content with new graphics.
