Do you think Nintendo will buy out SEGA?

I don't have any of the Nintendo systems, but I've noticed that a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog games that are on Nintendo systems exclusively (i.e. Sonic Lost World and also Sonic appearing in the next Smash Bros.) So I am wondering if Sonic team and Sonic himself will move to the Nintendo fold at some point or if Nintendo will acquire SEGA altogether.

Any thoughts?

I don't see Sega being around for too much longer, like Caboose said they're probably going to have to become a software only company. Who knows Sonic might be on his way to the Xbox as a future exclusive. Although more than likely Sonic will be one of Nintendo's exclusive franchises because of Nintendo's fan base.

There's also the possibility that Sonic and co. come to all the consoles as non-exclusive titles.

This is a very interesting thread. The way I see it, Sega is out. They have games exclusive to the Xbox and games exclusive to the Wii and it's not enough to keep lending out their products without putting out a platform of their own. Fact of the matter is, they don't stand a chance these days no matter how many classic Sega fans there are. I think Nintendo buying them out would be a very smart move but I don't think they can afford them just yet. I think Sega is stubborn.

At this point, that's all Sega is; A software company.

Are they making crazy money? No.

Are they making enough off of Merchandising to  stay they're own entity? You bet.

You slap Sonic on anything, and it will sell. The games may be panned at this point, but they SOLD.

As it is, Sega and Nintendo are kinda falling into the back ground, with the new struggle between Sony and Microsoft going on.

But will Nintendo buy out Sega? I don't think so.

As it is, I'm sure there are plenty of people at Sega who still want to show Nintendo they're not out yet.

If you remember, Sega's old tagline for the Genesis was; "Genesis does, what NintenDON'T." Pretty ballsy.

Lots of people still want to see Sega rise from the ashes and put out a console, as almost every single one they put out was popular (It took until after it failed for the Dreamcast, but still.)

Basically what I'm saying is, No. I don't think Nintendo will buy out Sega. Sega's started to realize they can branch out, and now most of their older games are available on all three systems, as well as newer ones being released on them as well. I think the Chance of that happening are at most, a little better than Microsoft buying out Sony, or vice versa.

If anything I'd say Microsoft would be more likely to buy them out. Microsoft has had a history with Sega (they allowed them to use the Windows 2000 OS for the Dreamcast) and after the failure of the Dreamcast a lot of Sega IPs appeared on the Xbox (Panzer Dragoon, Sega GT, Jet Grind Radio, etc).
