Ashes of Mombassa-RP thread

Scott's Guns and Missiles replied for him, blowing the Spirit to pieces.

"Eagle 2-4 is back on station!" He said into his radio. "Ya miss me? Paint your targets, I've got Cluster bombs ready to drop on some Alien heads."

Kyro wired the last tank with C4 to its controls and stepped back to admire his work. "These drivers are gonna have a blast..." he grinned. Then he noticed  a shuffling noise behind him and dived sideways in time to avoid a plasma sword which chopped a glowing gash in the armor of the wraith. He rolled back up into a defensive stance with his katana drawn in one hand and his combat knife in the other. He watched as an elite in some sort of cerimonial armor decloaked and drew a second plasma sword. It turned to face him and clashed its two plasma swords together in a flash of light. Kyro mimiced this, running his blades across eachother, creating a line of sparks. "Let's dance buddy," he growled. Diving forward, Kyro ducked under the first swing the elite threw at him and spinning past the elite he sliced through the edge of its leg followed by another cut across its back. He came up behind the elite and took a defensive stance. The elite, dragging its wounded leg, swung around and sliced wildly at Kyro brushing him barely with the very tip of one of its swords and cutting a molten gash in his armor. The elite bellowed loudly in rage just before Kyro swung his sword through the base of the things neck. Turning he rushed to one of the two tanks they hadn't rigged with explosives and jumped into the hatch. "Ok, let's see what we have here..." He pressed a large glowing button in the center of the controls and the tank hummed to life. "Not so difficult..." He pressed another button and the tank shot forward on its thrusters. "Ok, so this might take some getting used to..." He popped open the hatch real quick to check to see if Ivan was there, and noticed a small horde of elite coming from another direction.

"Glad to have you back, intel spotted about an hour ago that there was a makeshift Wraith repair and Refuel depot. I'm sure the amount of plasma batteries there would make a very, very nice explosion. Catch my meaning?" Asked the NCO, as a black silhouette blasted the descending dropship." That should leave them without most of their armour." He continued, grinning at the prospect of cutting off all support the covvies could muster on the ground.

"I'm in the other tank, don't worry. I wired my share of the C4, and am ready for detonation. I watched your fight with the elite. Very nice." Ivan said. He pushed forward on the thruster and moved away from the rest of the wraiths. They would be destroyed in a few minutes, so why not move away.

"Kyro, move your tank to where I am. Elites are about getting in the others. Hurry." The Russian had his thumb right above the detonate button.

"Captain, this is Ivan. I'm okay. Kyro and I found a wraith division and wired all except for two. When you see two coming form the East, that will be us. Ivan out."

"Coordinates transmitting now, east of command centre. I have markers on Ivan and Kyros commandeered vehicles, you'll want to avoid blasting them, Wraiths, if get out of there, we have a Longsword on its way to blow the depot out of the ground." He said with a grin, happy to be on the offensive.

"Third Platoon, Charlie Company, Second Squad. You're clear to engage."

Sergeant Juarez of 3/C-2 removed his hand from his helmet mic and punched the safety off of his MA5C. "That's our go. Get ready!" He stood, formed up on the wooden gate leading out of the alley and onto the street, Privates Lockett and van Wyk in a close stack behind him. "Go!"

Juarez swung his leg back, breaking the aged gate's handle and leaving it swinging on one hinge. Private Aaron Lockett charged through first, lugging his LMG at shoulder level, barrel forward as he neared the sounds of a hellish exchange. He mounted up his weapon at the first spot of cover he saw--a charred frame of a civilian Genet--and leveled his sights on an Elite that was exchanging fire with law enforcement personnel.

"Not today, you squid headed motherfu--!" His voice, along with the Elite, faded under the clattering roar of his .30 caliber LMG. The muzzle flashes lit up the few shadows inside the building that sheltered the rest of the police, brass and empty casings streamed out over the blackened hood of the car, and almost as soon as it was that he began firing, the Elite withered, flailed and crumbled in a mess of holes.

Not a moment after his first confirmed Ultra kill, a second LMG cut loose just over Aaron's shoulder, joining him and 3/C in mopping up the remaining Covenant infantry with a deadly crossfire. Between bursts, he could almost hear Private Nathan van Wyk laughing at the hell they were imposing upon their enemy. Grunts fell rather quickly, the Jackals lasting only as long as they could hold their shields to the incoming fire. It wasn't long before a few stray rounds passed their weapon notches, breaking their defensive stance and flaying them with continuous fire.

"Cease fire! Cease fire!"

Lockett complied but stayed low--swept the streets left to right with Nate as they exited cover. "Clear!"

"Clear!" Nate called out, soon followed by Juarez who was in the middle of a mag change. By then, someone from 3/C threw out a red flare in front of the building near the NMPD patrollmen.

"Regroup at the smoke!"

Aaron and his fireteam slowly jogged their way to the regroup site, his heavy gear rattling with each stride. He dropped his mag, pulling a fresh box from his thigh case and locked it home, sliding the fresh belt in through the side before locking the mechanism down.

"Yeah! Get some, Lockett!" a squad mate called as he punched his shoulder.

Aaron smiled, giving him a nod. "We're all clear sergeant."

"Roger that. Command, Three Charlie Two is clear. Repeat, Grid Alpha Four is clear. We're gonna start making our way through the outskirts until we hit the highways and then advance into downtown Mombasa to rendezvous with the Shock Troops. ETA thirty minutes. How copy, over?"

"Solid Copy. We'll give 'em a head's up. Out."

Kyro hand managed to become more at ease with the controls of the tank and began to move it away from the depo towards a marker on his HUD where the Captain was stationed with an unknown number of marines and ODST's. Hopefully some of the army guys he had launched with would have made their way there as well. As he drove forward he heard a blast behind him and felt the vehicle shaking, popping the hatch he looked out and back and watched as the flaming skeletons of half of the wraiths burned on the ground. An elite lunged from a turret of one of the smoldering tanks with fire consuming his whole body. The poor b******d had had the misfortune of being armored enough in the turret to avoid being killed by the blast from his driver attempting to move the rigged tank. Kyro almost felt sorry for the overgrown lizard, until images played back from his memory of the charred and mutilated corpses of colonists on several planets he had been to. He climbed back down inside the tank and continued towards the marker. The other half of the tanks had been rigged to a detonator which Ivan was carrying, once the other squid-faces were all nice and cozy, they would be joining their comrades. He grinned at the idea of having neutralized an entire armored division. Without those tanks, this fight was about to be made an even match. He barrelled forward boosting the tank to its limits. "Better take the highway back to HQ, these city streets are too littered. We'll break the armor on both these tanks just crashin into stuff before we get there." As he came near an on ramp, Kyro saw past the taller buildings to the location where the temporary base had been set up. A small swarm of dropships circled like vultures. "Hell...Heads up, time to get back in this thing. Let's hope we aren't too late."

"Indeed. Let's take the highway. We definitely need our armor intact." Ivan pressed the booster button, and sped along the highway behind Kyro. The city was now almost completely razed, pretty much gone. If the Covenant wanted to glass the planet, they certainly could, but why aren't they now? Instead of causing so much pain and suffering, just get it over with instantly. The Russian shoved the thought out of his head and focused on the highway. Another wraith was positioned in front of them, and Ivan pressed the button to fire. There was a jolt in the cockpit, but the other wraith was hit by the plasma ball and exploded with content.

"Look! The sign says 1.6 miles East. That is where we need to go to surprise the Covies." he said. "But first... we have to deal with THAT. And hopefully we get help." A giant metallic four legged monster with huge weaponry slowly marched across the city, allowing it to move freely. Ivan was sure there would be no scarabs,  but I guess you have to be adaptable.

"Captain, this is Ivan. We have a problem. Look to the East, and see if you see what I'm seeing."

Kyro glanced quickly over at the scarab but kept watching the highway itself. They would have to be careful because not only did the covenant probably already mark their stolen tanks for destruction, but any random marine that happened along would mistake them at first for a pair of elite zelots on some sort of crazed rampage down the highway. They were walking a thin line, and now that scarab would be another threat they had to keep an eye on. It was capable of crossing the city in a few steps and could burn through their armor like paper. He paused, he swore he saw a marine-armor style of green moving alongside the highway... Maybe he was  just seeing things. He took one last look at the scarab and manuvered his tank up through the crashed vehicles.

The Captain managed to down the approaching alien, sword drawn with a shotgun shell. One group of stealth Elites had slipped into yhe base unnoticed. He quickly took cover, keying his radio. "Ivan, Kyro DO NOT ENGAGE, repeat do not engage. Word is that the Chief's on that mofo. Don't want to spoil all the fun for the Spartan now do we? Roger request Three Charlie, bring them in. One if our Pelicans is en-route to provide fire support and dream attention. If we get the helljumpers in, we can assault the carrier." He replied, looking up at the colossal ship hovering above the city near the elevator. Strange how it could easily decimate the entire force here but chose not to.

He then broadcast over the company frequency; "Marines, I think its time to expand our border. The street leading out of here is littered with debris and opens into an intersection which will be vital for ferrying troops around. I want the Scorpion and Mantid in front supported by Helljumpers for protection. Clear the sector, and the next reinforcements will help set up defences." He nodded to the four pelicans, keying three to dust off. One immediately began its way almost opposite to the other two, which would be bringing supplies into the next staging area. The Cobra began to unpack, readying itself to provide support for the convoy. It felt good to be on the offensive again.

"Ivan, Kyro, Make sure you get clear! That area is about to get real hot, real soon!"

Scott's Longsword shook as he turned sharply, pointing his fighter toward the drop zone.

"Approaching drop zone, ETA, 2 minutes, if I don't run into any interference along the way."

"No problem air boy and Captain. We are out of the depot and are coming back to base from the East on the main highway. If you see two wraiths destroying the Covies, that is us. So far it is crystal clear and we have a straight path. Oh... jinxed it. Damnit!" Ivan replied. Two wraiths, four ghosts, and one revenent blocked their paths. The Russian pressed the same button as before, and that took care of the ghosts. One wraith shot, and it barely missed Ivan. If he hadn't driven back, it would have blown him sky high. He launched another plasma ball, and this time it missed. Once again, Ivan fired, and took care of the revenant.

What to do here? I wonder when Kyro will fire, the Russian thought.

Scott leveled his fighter as the drop zone sped closer, Needler rounds bounced off of his shields, but they held up. He flipped a switch on his control panel, bringing up the Bombing HUD, projecting a trajectory marker and a predicted landing zone.

"Alright... let's see some fireworks! Bombs in the air!"

Scott dropped two of his four Cluster bombs. The two bombs fell for a few seconds, before splitting open, spreading thousands of tiny 25 lbs bombs across the drop zone. The Covenant that didn't scramble for cover didn't have time to regret their decision.

"Right on target! Captain, this problem is solved, I'll take my beer anytime. let me know if you need another dose. Eagle 2-4, out."

Kyro had pressed the firing controls and was rewarded with only a mechanical grinding sound. He watched as a whole battle unfolded in front of him. Pressing the controls again, the sound repeated itself. He cursed, kicked the tank, opened the hatch, and looking back noticed a piece of metal had lodged itself into the firing mechanism. Looking back at Ivan fighting a whole group of enemies, he shrugged, "F*** it." Climbing back into the tank, he jammed the driving control fully foward, and boosted the vehicle foward towards an enemy wraith. The pilot of the wraith immediatly noticed the other vehicle bearing down on it and, turning, fired a shot directly into the front of Kyro's wraith. The wraith's armor held though and Kyro barrelled into the wraith shoving it off the highway with a deafening crash. Alarms blared and warning screens popped up showing that nearly the entire armor of the wraith had been comprimised. "Look's like all this things good for now is transportation and scrap metal..."

"Well, that was taken care of. Let's go- WATCH OUT!" Ivan yelled. An unusually fast banshee screeched by as it fired a green fuel cannon, which impacted on the highway column. The Russian felt the ground shake outside of his wraith, and soon enough he knew he was falling. He tried to open the hatch as his vehicle plummeted towards the ground. There was nothing he could do.

CRZCHH! The wraith hit the ground and shook it. Ivan popped the hatch open, and looked around. The highway was gone, he he would have to go through the Covenant filled streets to get to the base.

"Command, me and Kyro might be a little late." Ivan said into his radio.

Lockett had his foot pressed against the roll cage of his personnel carrier 'Hod, which was in the middle of 3/C's convoy of eight LRVs. They had just now reached East 110 Highway. When the reports that the Master Chief was on East 105, the complete opposite side of the city, there was a mix of disappointed groans and accepting laughs. Lockett simply shook his head. The presence of John-117 didn't change anything from their SOP or the way Charlie Company was going about securing the city. If anything, they had a little more freedom, not accounting for the presence of a half ton human destroyer.

As Command broke through the comm channel, he could see Juarez raise ahand from the passenger seat ahead of his own. "Command, we're en route to the downtown area now. ETA five, maybe seven minutes from the highway exit. You got an RV point for us yet?"

Pulling up a holo map of the area and the position the convoy was in, he selected multiple areas. He finally saw one stand out, a munitions depot near the elavator. "Three Charlie, we have a supply and munitions depot and a large military production site nearby. Reach the desired courtyard, we can lift in some troops to lock it down. Then move on to the park, feel free to scavenge any annoying and supplies you need. HUD should be updated with markers.... Now. Ivan, Kyro, divert course- assist Three Charlie in clearing the areas- I imagin they wouldn't refuse some fire support."

"Yes sir!" Ivan responded, and sped off on his wraith. He pressed the button and fire the cannon, which took care of a small blockade and the Covenant around it. It was about 1 mile South of their position, so they had to go that way. The Russian made a sharp turn and then talked into his comms.

"Three Charlie, this is Corporal Ivan. I'm a Recon Agent. Now that we have that out of the way, Kyro and I are in wraiths. So, if you see wraiths coming in from a direction that isn't from the military production base, that's us. ETA 5 minutes. Ivan out."

He turned left and then right once more. The city was razed, so a lot of debris was blocking the roads. Ivan thought he would have to go around, but it seemed that there was always a road.

Things had started to get a little boring for Scott. His assigned sector was almost entirely clear, save for the ground troops. He hadn't seen a single air unit pass through his kill-zone for the last half hour.

"Covie's must've decided to cut their losses..." He grinned underneath his mask. "I've made this an expensive day for them."

He checked his fuel gauge. He had enough fuel for another 8 hours of uninterrupted flight.

"This is gonna be a Loooooooong day..."

"Eagle, new info- a Covenant air depot near the east bridge to the mainland- Scarab and Chief headed that way, I'll leave the rest up to you. From the reports I'm getting, some Falcons and Hawks are already in hot engagement. Reports of at least one Lich accompanied by squadrons of Vampires and Banshees. Should be a nice little challenge for you."

Juarez raised a thumb up. "Roger that--resupply and proceed to the park. Coordinates recieved. We're en route. Gentlemen, Christmas came early," he announced on TEAMCOM. "We're restocking and moving to clear the park area. We've got fire support from a few commandeered wraiths."

Lockett furrowed his brow. "Comandeered?"

"Yeah. Recon specialists."

"ODSTs."

"Affirmative."

"Should be fun."

"Oh yeah."

"One more thing, I'm the Recon Specialist, but not an ODST. Kyro can do a bunch of other things that I would suck at. He just happened to save me so we have been doing things together for the past hour. Just wanted to clear that up, no confusion. New ETA: Three minutes. Ivan out until arrival." The Russian stated flatly. He hated it when they mixed things up that should have been easily understood.

Ivan banked right and saw a few energy beams flying in the sky in the distance. That obviously meant the production facility was close. He pushed on his booster button and began to speed down the street.

"Oh yeah, you need to take down the air base, but Chief some time to board that Scarab. As soon as that thing is in sight, you must disengage, repeat disengage when you see the walker. That's not your job."
