Capture Card help

Looking for opinions on capture cards.

Wanting to know which one would be best for capturing games and easy editing, if there is a certain video editing software that would be best to use etc.

I've been told a Dazzle capture card would be a good one to go for although it's not in HD and I don't know much about it.

I don't much about any capture cards to be honest so any and all help would be much appreciated.

A Dazzle capture card was great back in the starting days of reach and the days of Halo 3, as it was the cheapest one around, and didn't require much.

However, nowadays HD is the new 'thing', and most of the time you aren't gonna get recognized without it. And then, it depends on your system and what you want. Do you want some high speed processing? Blackmagic Intensity. Do you want convenience? Elgato game capture. Do you want to be traditional? The HD PVR, the one HD capture card people have been using since 2008 (Halo 3!)

There are many more, such as from Avermedia, but really, I think the biggest one right now is the Elgato. After all, it's the size of a deck of cards, requires only 2 HDMI, and theres no need for a power source.

So lets look at price vs quality dazzle's are cheep but any device with a/v red/white/yellow  plug and pray just won't ever deliver what you want or need price can be as low as 65 but it is what you pay for cheep and yes I know it has a s-video port but that is still low quality. If you want something good you are going to have to spend over one hundred dollars on a capture card. I am also looking into a new card as JI1223 X has found my YouTube account without it ever having been listed as my account, good job on that JI1223 X.  I will list what I am looking to get later today. Do note the card I chose may not be right for others.

Oh yeah. Spend alll your money bruh!

I use a:

-Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle, Thunderbolt Ver.

-Blackmagic Media Express (Included) to capture

-Capture with ProRes 422 LT codec (Rather than the original YUV 8-Bit, which was 60GB per 10 minutes, this is about 5GB per 10 minutes of recording)

-Editing with Final Cut Pro X

The above is what I recommend for any good mac, as the Thunderbolt and Intensity Shuttle allows for very fast paced recording. It takes some time to set up, but once you do it's very easy to use. The ProRes 422 LT codec is ONLY available for mac, yet another pro. The quality is generally what you would see on a 1080p video, but the filesize is much lower. I use LT because I will only be 'converting' it once - FCPX allows me to use optimized media, so I can create and edit a video of high quality and export it only once, which won't lower the quality of LT. Kind of costly, but clever people always find a way.

Using something else, such as a system that can't successfully use the IS without pooping lag out, I recommend the Elgato Game Capture. Many youtubers use it.

[Nak3d Eli, btw, uses an Intensity Shuttle, except with a USB 3.0 version, not a Thunderbolt version. No real difference; The Thunderbolt is just about twice as fast in transmitting than the USB 3.0, which in turn is about 10.5x faster at transmitting than the USB 2.0]

I use a Roxio Game Capture.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I bought the non-HD version, but there's definately a Roxio Game Capture HD out there if you need HD recordings. It comes with a program called VideoWave I believe, which is a very simple editing tool for new editors.
