Enjoy that time as the only next-generation console on the market, Wii U. The competition is coming sooner than you might think.

Bloomberg reports Microsoft will release its next generation Xbox in time for the 2013 holidays. While the date has been widely expected, the news service says unnamed company insiders have now confirmed the time period.

There are still plenty of questions about the reveal, though. One of the biggest is whether Microsoft will wait until the E3 trade show in June to debut the Xbox 720 (or Xbox 8, or Durango, or whatever they decide to call it), though the company is said to be considering a separate event dedicated solely to the system's reveal.

Rumors about the tech specs of the next system are everywhere. Most recently, Xbox World reported that it will boast an improved version of Kinect, a Blu-ray drive, and a new controller with an embedded HD touchscreen.

Microsoft, not surprisingly, declined to comment on the story.

Part of the reason for that 'no comment' is the company's long-standing refusal to discuss rumor and speculation. The other is that it doesn't want to distract anyone from the Xbox 360 this year.

It's a strategy that's working so far. During Black Friday week, Microsoft beat out the competition by selling 750,000 Xbox 360 consoles. Halo 4, which many speculate is the swan song for the Xbox 360 as far as original AAA titles go, is also selling well.

Bloomberg's story did not, however, make mention of the streamlined "Xbox TV" device that has been making the rumor rounds lately. The Verge reported late last week that Microsoft was planning a set-top box device that would provide access to core entertainment services as well as casual gaming options at a lower price than its next gen console. That device, reportedly, is meant to compete with Apple TV.

I like it being sleek now, we dont need some epicly (not a word) sexy machine, we just need one that has a sleek but functional design.

However , it wouldnt be bad if they released some sort of xbox "skins" at a later date for those who want them.

other then that, im all jumpy waiting for this new xbox, i wonder how large it will be in comparison to this current Gen xbox

I'm slightly apprehensive about this console. Now the xbox 360 has had a great 7 year run but do we really need a new games console war?

In any case I feel that the xbox 360 has another 2 years life left in it. If they were to release Halo 5 for the next gen xbox of course I would buy it but I hope it doesn't go that far as the xbox 360 is selling better than ever.

It seems like in order to compete with the Wii U they've been forced to release this console and I pesonally think it's a little too soon.

Feel free to disagree these are just my initial opinions.

Well, in my own opinion; I like the sound of some new hardware and I like the design except for one small feature. I like my disc drive to pop out like a disc drive. My Ps3 when I got it at launch that was kind of a downer for me and I know my 360 has stayed true in that aspect. I have not tried the Kinect so I would not know about a second one doing much more than this one, but I am always fascinated by how the graphics and raw power of hardware. I know that pcs outbeat consoles, but there is just something magical about sitting with a controller on the couch that is much more fun than a computer for me when gaming. So other than the one hicup about a disc drive opener or whatever it is actually called is the only thing bother me.

Yeah I am in love with the new design. I don't want one that looks like the 360 and I don't want some Sci-fi alien computer. This is just right :) I just feel like it will be pretty hard to take places since it is so huge :/

I dunno i think it looks a bit smaller than the xbox 360 slim, i know cant tell since the pictures a close up's of the console but i dunno it just looks that way to me lol.

hmmm... any cost info?

Price will probably not be released until a few months before the new console drops (maybe ~ May/June 2013).

*My personal opinion* - With the specs given, I personally expect a price tag of at least $500 with a premium version upwards of $700~$800. We'll just have to wait for more info.

I'm interested in seeing what developers can pull off with this machine, lol!

Hm...I hope they prettify the suggested design. The 360 is better than that.

Why? The proposed design is sleek, refined, and not in your face like the older 360 designs were. It's elegant, and the color scheme is not meant to stand out. It looks pretty epic.
