"In the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, details have emerged describing just what was happening in the first mission of Halo 4. This would be the very same mission shown at Microsoft’s E3 presentation and answers the question as to why the Covenant were hostile to the Master Chief.

The Covenant shown in the E3 demo were part of a splinter group called ‘Storm’. Readers may remember ‘Storm’ popping up not too long ago in the latest line of Halo 4 McFarlane Toys.

The ‘Storm’ faction in Halo 4 is a group of Covenant that have broken up with the main body of the newly peaceful Covenant, carrying their Prophets’ ideology and religion with them. Their motive? As of right now details are very sparse, but what little information Official Xbox Magazine did describe is that the faction’s goal is to find a powerful weapon on Requiem.

Even less is known about this weapon, but the original tenants—the Prometheans seem intent on guarding this powerful weapon and will show equal hostility to Covenant and humanity alike if attempts to acquire the weapon are made."

This should answer quite a few questions we had about why the Covenant were showing aggression and attacking Master Chief. I still wonder about this "weapon" they are looking for. Enjoy!!

Nice find! It'll be interesting to see how the Covenant and Prometheans interact in the campaign.

From what we've seen in the gameplay vids, Prometheans will show aggression towards ANY outsider as they are protecting something. (an Elite gets disintegrated by a Promethean)

Yeah I've seen that, I meant as far as the story goes. I wonder if the peaceful covenant will have fight along with Master Chief.

well remember how at the end of the campaign demo, the promethean knight knocked chief out. He didnt kill him because they probably need him alive for something. But they do seem willing to destroy the covenant as well as other humans from the infinity

Like I have posted in a couple other threads, I am guessing that Halo 4 is going to mirror Halo CE, the Covenant 'Storm' are the main bad guys, the Prometheans are bad at first but join Chief when they realize he is not trying to take the hidden weapon.

"I think the Didact is trying to board the Infinity and escape from Requiem, to destroy the modern species in the galaxy. That must be why Cortana flipped out on the Infinity's Captain about leaving Requiem."

Although not a completely accurate quote, it is similar. So I think the Didact (or whomever is the 'Ancient Evil') is trying to escape, and the Campaign focuses on defeating him.

Doesn't work that way. Why would 343 take away our new enemies right after introducing them?

More likely, the Didact will be trying to escape the planet and would be using his Prometheans to achieve that goal.

This is what I think will happen...

Covenant Storm is MAIN bad guys.

Promotheans are BAD GUYS until half-way of the game when they SUPPORT Master Chief to overthrow DIDACT!

The prometheans wont throw over the didact. I think the humans and civenant are going to be trying to get something from the forerunners and they both need it.
