Halo 4 Forge Wishlist: Get your ideas in!!!

First things first I would like to assure you guys that this will take a different approach than the other pinned forge threads and such. On a specific forging website that I'm not going to advertise on this site we created a sandbox forging wishlist thread. In that thread we composed a massive list of wants and needs. We then sent it to Bungie in an email. Needless to say it had HUGE success.

I kid you not in this thread before any details of sandbox were released we emailed the suggestion of FX filters, Kill balls, Golf Balls/holes, and a floating grid for air map forging. All of these ideas were implemented. So my suggestion to the 343 industries community would be to construct our own list for H4 and email it to 343 industries. I'll start with some of my ideas. Please keep the ideas possible. I've seen a lot of awesome suggestions during my days here (forge solar system) that simply aren't reasonably possible.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Less Restrictions on Objects

What I mean by this is that I always found it to be quite annoying how you could only use a certain number of double walls for no good reason. Why not simply have a very large budget and allow the forger to to make a map out of 600 double walls if they want. This would require a slight tweak to the budgeting system but it would, in my opinion, be a massive improvement on the system they have implemented in previous Halo games.

Additional Tools to Alter/Move Objects

Wouldn't it be cool to be able to automatically snap an object to the exact same level as another object for perfectly flat floors. Imagine being able to go into your tools tab and hit a button that instantly moves the object up or down until it "collides" with another object or map geometry. Imagine being able to duplicate an object in place so as not to have to arrange every single aspect of it again just to get it perfectly lined up.

Music Options

Imagine being able to put in every single song from the halo soundtrack, ambient life soundtracks, and flood/infection type noises to really bring out the atmosphere of your map. Additional options that I think would be pretty cool are gunfire in the distance sounds, and mortar fire sounds. Furthermore you could choose to make it apply to the entire map or just an area that can be edited similar to hills and objective zones.

Editable Skull Skulls

I personally think that it would be epic to be able to add our own forge skulls into our maps. What I mean is you add a skull in and adjust the settings in the object properties panel. This would be cool because you could potentially do cool things such as give the player a power boost... but really it would just reward the player who enjoys going above and beyond to search the map. Imagine having entire maps dedicated to skull hunting. The best of which would be incredibly exstensive and large.

Elephants

Just something that I think should definatly be included as it works wonders for objective gametypes. Imagine this gametype. There are 4 elephants on a map and two belong to each team. One for each team has a flag on it. Each elephant also works as a safe zone (Which cancels out the kill zone covering the entire map) that goes out 20 feet in each direction. Also the vehicles on the elephants act as a safe zone. The goal is to capture the flag. I know this game is just off the top of my head and probably wouldn't work too well but just imagine the possibilities that elephants would add for the forging community.

More Choice of Environmental Objects (Predalian5)

What Is meant by this is that we believe that the forging community should be given a much larger choice of environmental objects than just the rocks in Reach. Allow us to add trees of varying different shapes and sizes, allow us to add a large mountain or mound for us to use as the foundation for our maps. The variety of objects that could be included is endless.

Weather/Time/Sky Color FX Filter (Predalian5)

Wouldn't it be cool to go into your forge map and be able to edit every aspect of the worlds setting with a single FX filter. If you want to make a spooky infection map, then you just change the time setting to night and change the weather setting to violent storm (or something similar). Furthermore imagine being able to slightly alter the hue of the sky and create beautiful skylines. If this FX filter was included, then no two forge maps would ever seem the same.

Joining Objects Together (The Ninja)

This is a very good idea. Imagine the simplicity of being able to assign objects to a group the same way you do with channels for teleporters. Then you could edit an entire sniper tower up a few feet instead of having to mess up and replace every single item a few feet higher than the original. This could be used to save valuable time in forging.

Middle Ground for Objects (The Ninja)

Another very good point by The Ninja is that reach had the relatively small 5x5 flat block and the coliseum wall with almost no middle ground. When making floors the coliseum wall tended to be a little overkill, while the 5x5 block could take a long time to forge and wasted objects in the building blocks section that could otherwise have been put to good use.

Ability to Lock Vehicles/Weapons (The Ninja)

It would be cool and useful if forgers had the ability to lock vehicles and weapons to a certain team. This would make it so that forgers could create a larger and more exciting variety of maps and game-types. Maybe this could be handled via a checklist in the object properties panel.

Better Canvases (ElitelSnlp3r)

In Past Halo's the canvases have been good but they could have been better. What would be really cool is a massive skybox type building area with nothing else in it except air and a grid. The collesium was nice in Halo Reach, but wouldn't it be nice to have a very very large outdoor flat surface to work on?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try to post ideas in a similar if not the same format. Thank you.

Land skins (Snow, Desert, wasteland Ex..)

The ability to add environmental objects (Trees, Ponds, Hills, Ex..)

Climate (Rainy, Snowy, sunny Ex..)

Day Light (Night, Morning, Day ex..)

Sky colour

added environmental objects idea and combined the last three into one single FX filter.

Keep the good ideas coming.

i thought id add my own additions to what others have said and add entirely new ideas.

i make my own maps, both competitive and social maps for custom games. i make mazes, maps for movies, etc etc..

Floors:

i get really sick of using 5x5 blocks to make floors, it takes to long, especially for big long maps, and its an absolute pain in the arse to make them incline on a slight angle to get them over a natural obstacle on the map like grass or a rock. they're not big enough and i usually choose to use wall collisiums and make them flat. this takes longer but its easier as they're alot bigger.

there should be a floor and bridge section, where there's different types of grounds, floors, and bridges. with grounds, have different textrues, have a quick option for an even incline no matter what angle its on. and if anyone has ever played far cry 2, they would know that there are bridge sections, and that you can make end pieces, and middle pieces, i thought the idea of this in halo would be very cool.

vehicles:

the selection in reach for vehicles was vastly improved from reach, however i think you should be able to lock vehicles to one team in team games. for example if you wanted to have a human vs covenant battle game, one team can only use their race vehicles, unlike in reach where invasion games were simply steal from the team. if you could make an option where you could simply lock the vehicles to another team that would be cool.

being that im an amateur youtube film maker, i like having some cool scenery in vehichles. i think it would be a cool idea to be able to remove weapons of warthogs in a quick option menu (press x like in reach). same with falcons, not necessarily to add new unnecessary vehicles that wont be used in competitive online, but to have that extra sandbox option for film makers.

as people have asked for for years and years since halo 3, the pelican is awesome, i think even in competitive gameplay, like big team games (invasion etc), it would be cool to be able to pick up team mates from a spawn area and drop them off. and yet again, for film makers, being able to do some awesome drop scenes would be a dream.

the whole elephant idea is awesome, and i love it. if it was possible to do it, it would have to be a removable vehicle unlike halo 3.

weather:

it would be cool like another person has said already to change the settings of time, fog, water level, and rain. once again i refer to far cry 2, where you could do all that, change time of night, and weather. it would be really cool as well, on online games where the whether changes at random. and when selecting maps and modes in matchmaking choose night or day version, i know some people wouldn't like that idea as it would be an extra 10 seconds of voting, but its just an idea.

scenery:

it would be cool to have glass walls and floors. the ones in reach you couldn't see through very well. then the option for having them breakable when they get shot or unbreakable. it would be cool to have more options of collums and different textures. things like struts and tunnels would be cool if there were more shapes, sizes and textures.

id like to add to what sweaty bagels said about tools. it would be a map makers dream if you could copy and paste not only 1 item, but a selection, then have another option to reverse a selected area like a mirror, so it would be an extreme shortcut to make maps that are the same both sides.

i dont need to comment on the need for less restriction of objects.

but a higher choice of environmental objects is ideal. being table to make your own environment is necessary to set your maps aside from another. in reach, to make an artificial grass floor you had to turn the golf holes upside down, but you only had 10 of them, and that is if you don't use any other toy objects. having a higher variety of rocks, and even natural bridges, and inclines/ramps and floors.

in reach, i hated having the same objects to edit on every single map... buying the map packs made forging feel no different, in halo 3 every map was different in forge... i hope that in halo 4 you guys and girls can make new objects to edit in future map packs and in general, different maps installed with game.

i am very surprised of the game so far being displayed at e3, and didnt expect such good graphics and ideas in the game for a first time studio. in other words, keep up the good work. :D

Everything that I left in this quote has been added to the list. Thanks for the ideas and support.

How about an empty map so you can build a map from scratch?

All the above ideas are pretty cool! I would love to see that in Halo 4!

Added to the end of the list! :)

I know many people think that much of this stuff couldn't make it in before Halo 4's release and that's probably correct. If you feel this way then at least note that there is plenty of time before Halo 4's first DLC and such.

The ability to have large aerial based maps. Instead of always having a few Falcons, the ability to make a large area for many pelicans and phantoms to fly would be awesome. Plus the few Longswords and Scarabs to wreak major havoc. Just...some real large battles. Halo:CE was the best for this since the Extinction and Downflow community maps were designed for this. Halo 4 or 5 could maybe let console gamers have a bit of this fun.

One thing i noticed that REALLY piqued my interest was the player trait zones. I dont know if this is already in but since the zones affect things like shields, jump height, and most importantly for my response GRAVITY, I would really love to see how we could turn the zone so that the "down" part is facing a wall or even a ceiling and players walking into the zones started walking on walls and the ceiling. That would bring an entirely new aspect to playing the games and i already have several ideas for maps that i wanna try out if we can do this. PLS PLS PLS as a dedicated forger this would be awesome!

Imagine playing infection and having the zombies literally crawling across the walls, a new way to ge skyjacks if the pilots arent paying attention to where they are flying, or my idea for a fun map: Halo Blender. Just set up a ton of those player trait zoes in a room going every which way and players entering are just blown all over the place while using something like a sniper rifle or any other gun trying to kill people as they are moving all over the place. ^.^

And for all those Achievement horse fans out there, this will give Jack and Geoff one heck of a time and playing some fun maps.

Model creation

The ability to take many parts and group them into a model. Then you can control the whole model and it's characteristics at all times. Then you can copy the model and paste it somewhere else.

Grav-Lift/Man Cannon Trajectory Editor

This is pretty much self-explanatory. It's a tool that allows you to modify the trajectory of a Grav-Lift (Man Cannon). It could work so

that all you have to do is pick two points on your map. The one thing that you have to do is make sure that there isn't a wall in between

them (obviously). This tool would be really helpful in certain cases. For example you made a BTB map and you want to put a

grav-lift in it, but you need the player to land in a specific spot. All you have to do is toss a grav-lift in your starting zone and make an

ending point. It's probably gonna take some tweaking, but sooner or later you'll get an AWESOME grav-lift!

Apply to All Tool

Halo 4 really should have an "Apply to All" tool. Basically it's a tool that allows you to apply certain characteristic(s) to different pieces.

For example, if your putting down lots of re-spawn points and you want them all to be FFA spawns. you simply have to go to one

(spawn point) and click the "Apply to All" Button. Or if you want to make all of your Hill Markers actual Hills, all you have to do is apply

the Hill Traits to one of the Hill Markers, then click the "Apply to All" button. I think it would be a great time-saver.

Asthetic objects such as the crashed pelican from the reach map "Highlands" or crashed warthogs that are burning. These objects would be great for infection maps. Combine a crashed pelican with some flashing lights or sparks and maybe a gloomy FX and you have a great way to set up a background story for your game.

I had the same idea!

There is no Map only an empty room. You can build things from up to 50 forge pieces.

Then you can save it as one object! This object can be used on the forgeworld.

You have totaly five slots for custom objects.

This would be awesome. You can build towers, bridges and many more things and save a lot time.

Wow. These are all really cool idea. Something I wish was in forge. The ability to not only make objects spawn in at a certain time but have items that spawn out at a certain time. Ex. a door blocking the way and at 1 minute it disappears letting players through or for mini games it could help in different scenarios.

Also, Ive been wanting a tool that allows you to change the size of your pieces. I know this is a little bit more advanced of a thought but it would be cool.

And lastly I want buttons. Buttons that allow different things or characteristic of the map to occur like a button to make an elevator work... IDK something like that. :)

I think being able to spawn things out at a certain time (in every gametype) would make things a lot cooler. There would be alot of cool maps if that was a tool.

making ais would be cool, like elites or marines

and being able to change the landscape would be cool

how and being able to build hornets, I liked those

another cool thing would be to place like blood or dead bodies for machinima effects etc

you should be able to color more than 1 vehicle also like a hornet with blue lineing

what are all the vehicles in halo 4 going to be?

they should also have a map that is a covenant cruiser vs a UNSC ship and u should be able to fight in space
